The Aberdeen Mega-Hyper New Stadium Thread

Recommended Posts

History and tradition are a moving feast.  Aberdeen are a prime example of that.

Traditional colour = REEED, except when it was yellow and black for the first 35 odd years.

Traditional nickname = The Dons, except when it was of course The Waaaasps!

Traditional away end is?  (Take yer pick, in my time it's been the South Stand, Beach End, Merkland Stand and occasionally even the Main Stand).

Our traditional club crest is relatively new in the scheme of things, it does harken back a bit further, but even then it was by no means  an integral part of probably our first 70-ish years.

We (fans) tend to pick and choose what we deem traditional, and a level of sentimentality often helps bond, but 50 years from now, Aberdeen FC will still be Aberdeen FC, and our 'traditional' home will be Kingsford.  Pittodrie will be a part of our history, but it shouldn't be deemed as our only history.

Yours, looking forward to knvting the Edinburgh yo-yo clubs et al in our new home.

Aberdeen fans can point out that they are a bigger club than Hibs and Hearts, and that's fine, I accept that they are.

No they fucking can't. yXAbrOQ.png

Anyway, mind when folk were looking forward to playing us at Murrayfield at the start of the season, but then the novelty wore off after five minutes? Yeah, you can maybe extend that to about five matches for this one before reality sinks in.

Letting your weasel chairman away with all this. heh.png

We chased Pieman Robinson out of the club when he branded Tynecastle 'not fit for purpose'.

It involves change.

Aye, there is some truth in that.

Some of the concerns are not without foundation.  Transport and infrastructure are key elements, and in my experience, they won't satisfy everyone.

Match-day experience will also change, but hopefully the at the ground experience will be better.

On the whole I think we should embrace the change.

Yours

Aberdeen are the third biggest club in Scotland.

No amount of "3 Scottish Cups in 20 years" patter changes this at all. Until either of us win a major European trophy, or come close to the same period of dominance they had in the 1980s, we will not be bigger than them

Haha gladly, I've debated almost every Hearts fan I know on this matter. They try and keep themselves relevant by creating mythical honours such as "the Champions League music played at Tynie ken!!!!"

This is completely irreversible, and as a fanbase, you have settled for an option that will leave an awful lot to be desired. Why not spend an extra 10-20 million on building it somewhere with good transport links? Or somewhere that the neighbours won't complain at every single decision you make in designing your ground?

As one of the councillors pointed out today, while the team is "Aberdeen", the catchment area  and fanbase spreads over a larger area than any club (except maybe Ross County). From Laurencekirk to Peterheid to Elgin and beyond you have fans travelling every week, to that end there will be good transport links, far better than now. Doesnt matter how often you try to spout that a location hemmed in by the north sea and King Street is good, it simply isn't.  So yes some lazy b*****ds who've been used to walking from their front door to the ground will now lose that, well fucking diddums, for every loser there's a winner, that's just how it is, and they've had it good a long time, sometimes things change, like Westhill has changed, but that was OK as long as the nimbys approved and it was for yet more identical boxes being built.

As for somewhere nobody will complain, well it'll have to be a lot more remote than fucking Kingsford for that to happen.

P.S. Far's the boy that said it was 10% not getting approved? fucking winker.

I think that's the thing. For fans like me, from Kincardineshire, I've never been able to just walk to the ground so it changes nothing from that point of view. We've a very spread out catchment area and Aberdeen represents the North East as a region in a way most clubs don't. If Hibs were to leave Leith they would lose something about their club identity, but Aberdeen would have to move a long way to have the same impact.

Ignore this guy Hibernia. He's said on numerous occasions he thinks everyone drives to games and nobody takes buses.

He confuses transport links with public transport links. His face should be a picture when Kingsford has 10,000 empty seats.

Thousands currently walk. Thousands only have one convenient bus to take. These are the type of people who would be far more likely to drop off than the drivers and passengers who only have to sit in their car for 20 minutes and park next to the ground, who only make up 55-60% of the attendance.
