Low Crowds for Scottish Cup games

What sort of periods are we comparing over?

Aberdeen got 9,800 v St Mirren today (lunchtime on TV) compared 9,000 v Stranraer last season... Kilmarnock 3,600 v Ross County compared to 2,900 v Hamilton... Ayr got 1,200 v Arbroath compared to 1,300 v Queen's Park... Alloa got 1,600 v Dundee Utd compared to 1,800 v Dunfermline... Dundee got 3,500 v Inverness compared to 3,600 v St Mirren.

If we look to the previous season - Motherwell got 4,700 v Hamilton compared to 3,800 v Cove (no surprise there and perhaps the derby uplift is disappointing)... Dundee got 3,500 v Inverness compared to 4,200 v Falkirk.

Those are the directly comparable ties - not much sign of big fall.

Previous 3 seasons R4 aren't as comparable due to November experiment.

Not part of season ticket (usually), therefore seen as an extra expense. You could also say that anyone salaried has likely not been paid since xmas yet either.

All part of it, the cold weather also contributes along with very few exciting ties.

Oh and clubs will be reporting accurate figures for cup games and not adding non - attending season ticket holders which many do for league games.

I was comparing it to average league games.

Winding back further to 2011-12, though it was earlier in January - Motherwell got 4,700 v Hamilton compared to 4,300 v Queen's Park... Dundee got 3,500 v Inverness compared to 3,500 v Kilmarnock (lunch live on TV).

2010-11 - Aberdeen got 9,800 v St Mirren (lunch on TV) compared to 7,000 v East Fife... Dundee got 3,500 v Inverness compared to 4,300 v Motherwell... QotS got 2,300 v Partick compared to 1,200 v Brechin... Dunfermline got 2,600 v Morton compared to 1,800 v Stenhousemuir... Aberdeen got 9,800 v St Mirren (lunch on TV) compared to 8,200 v Hearts :o... Ayr got 1,200 v Arbroath compared to 1,100 v Brechin... Kilmarnock got 3,600 v Ross County compared to 3,400 v Falkirk.

So things are pretty stable, looking back over a decade.

Ok, that wasn't obvious from "is it losing its appeal? they are well down".

Most probably it's been like this for a long time.

Also as noted certain clubs league figures include tickets sold but unused (STs etc.).

As the Pars fan says above the crowds for today's cup ties will be the actual crowd at the game where as a lot of sides add not attending season ticket holders onto the league crowds.

I went along to Bonnyrigg v Newtongrange today- the crowd was over 1000. OK so it was a Midlothian derby and there wasn't much else on in the Edinburgh area but perhaps the fact it cost £6 to get in to see a fairly good game (5-2 to Bonnyrigg) is a factor.

Oh, and good pies too!

So Dundee dropped 600 fans and then a further 100 in the 2 seasons.

Worrying. Armageddon IMO.

We played Morton 4 times last season. This season we 've played them twice and will play them twice more, including in 2 weeks time. Why would this game attract many fans of either club?
