Have Auchinleck Talbot & Clydebank tell the West Region clubs that they plan to go for their SFA Licence. As part of it they have to make a commitment to the pyramid, so with the support of the other clubs in the region they would like to nominate the newly minted West Region Premiership as a Tier 6 League with in the SFA Pyramid to cover the West of Scotland. Ball's in the SFA's court.

But what is the gold at the end of the pyramid rainbow for junior clubs. So your team does great and breezes through the new set up and find themselves in national league 3 ,youve lost in first round of league cup,had hard draw in big scottish cup and are out, rest of season travelling to Elgin,Montrose,Peterhead and dont expect away supporters filling their ends at  junior grounds. You wont be long remembering the local derbies, quarter finals of junior cup  day, six quid, half hour away trip back in time to check the coupon, the chance of winning some silverware. This  may be considered as anti progress or backward thinking but were all contributing on this web site because we love our juniors,we should be careful what we wish for.

Montrose, Elgin and Peterhead would bring more support than 95% of teams in the Juniors.

If all you want are local derbies then stay put, if you want to progress for the opportunity to play the likes of Montrose, Elgin and Peterhead then be forward thinking and start the car.

How many supporters do you think any of those three clubs would bring to a league match against, say, Cumnock?

I don't know, but I'd be surprised if it's much more than Auchinleck, Glenafton, Kilwinning, Pollok, Beith or Kilbirnie would bring.

You then begin to see the problem.

Another factor is that to attend an away match featuring Kilwinning I can get in my car and travel 10 minutes to Beith/Kilbirnie, same to Irvine Meadow/Vics/Ardrossan/Saltcoats/Ardeer, 15 minutes to Troon, 20 to Hurlford etc etc etc.

The prospect of travelling 3 hours to Montrose, Forfar, Peterhead twice a season isn't appealing as a result.

Another issue is that because the juniors are a separate grade most people have a senior team as well. Far cheaper for me to go to Kilmarnock than drive to Elgin and back.

"Progress" for you might be counter productive for others. Just because you are used to something doesn't mean that it's the correct thing to do for everyone. I don't get the impression that you really understand that.

If that happened you've pocketed more money than you have ever done as members of the SJFA, funding continued ground improvements, better players, part of a more professional organisation, national media exposure, and more importantly you're continuing to test yourselves at a higher and higher level. In addition to higher attendances.

You are never gonna get West junior clubs to embrace any pyramid by the delights of travelling the length of the country to play 2 ex part time Highland league teams. Try and make it sound enticing.

If its all about money why don't we all set up a direct debit to our club and don't  bother with playing the games

Would they. A few seasons ago Elgin drew QOS away in the 1st round of the league cup. This game was the first game of the season on a saturday in august. The away section had 1 fan. There were literally more stewards than fans.

This is 100% factually correct and not exaggerated for effect

......another one from Talbot.

It's not all about money but it helps run your club, helps improve the ground, helps build a stronger squad, and in the hypothetical scenario painted by your buddy Duraglit you'll have spent a few seasons as a Licenced club playing in the Scottish Cup, having won a "West of Scotland League" title, having won the Lowland League title, and are now a League Two club playing in the Scottish Cup, League Cup and Challenge Cup and probably increasing your home crowds as a result.   You'll even have fixture lists and floodlights.......

Im getting a funny feeling the Talbot fans don’t think going senior is a good idea. Its not very clear though, perhaps we need another thread to confirm it...?

I don't think that's true actually. Most fans are not against the pyramid in theory (I am not against the idea of a pyramid), they are against the way it was done which was essentially renaming the EOS and adding a few other teams

Unfortunately sneering at non-junior teams suggest it's a lot more than that.

To be fair to the guy although he is overreacting the being from Larkhall means you must be Mason Boyne thing would probably start to get irritating by the hundredth time you have heard it, if you are from that town, and given Paul McStay is from there and in the past it was one of the strongest areas of support for the SNP in Lanarkshire there is a lot more going on in Larkhall than the tired old stereotype.

They are very happy with the current set up as they sit at the summit a move to a pyramid would overnight put them at the bottom.
