The Gregarious Greenock -vs- The Inversnecky Isotopes

Recommended Posts

Enjoyed seeing Jai rip the pish out of Inverness in the first half. Especially tremarco and baird.

We should have been 3 or 4 up at half time but for Ridgers making some excellent saves. Caley had more of the ball after the break but didn't really trouble us at all. Was surprised at how poor they were.

GGH was MotM for me. Thought he strolled it today and put in a cracking shift.

Morton were all over us at the start of the game. Defensively we were a mess and Raven summed up our total lack of cohesiveness at the back when he misjudged the bounce of the ball and let it go past him and letting a Morton player in. Raven hauled him down and was deservedly sent off.

After that Morton continued to dominate while we resorted to thumping long balls to Baird who was now up front himself after Bell was removed for Seedorf.

Second half was a bit better as we stemmed the Morton tide (or they eased off) but again we struggled to really create any chances of note to get us back into the game. Polworth was really poor. I've defended him a lot on here but he was so wasteful with the ball and his set pieces are simply abysmal.

Ridgers made some good saves and Donaldson was again pretty decent but Seedorf was a big surprise when he came on. He slotted in really well at right back after Raven went off showing excellent timing when challenging for the ball and offering decent support down the flank when he got forward. I'd say he was probably our MotM.

Special mention for the referee who was utter pish. Not as bad as McKendrick but cutting it close. He lost control of the game by the end and was dishing out cards with zero consistency.

Thought seedorf played well when he came on. Quitongo seemed to fade out of the game once he came on. Not sure if it was just a coincidence but seedorf seemed to be a better match up physically than anyone else in the ict team.

Reactions to Seedorf have been completely schizophrenic this season. He had a couple of decent pre-season and Challenge Cup games and everyone was drooling over him, then he got murdered by Cardle at East End Park in a game where our more experienced defenders were equally abysmal, and suddenly he was a dud. He's barely played since then due to injury and then Raven coming into a much-improved defence, and the truth is that we don't know how good he might turn out to be. He did well when he came on today, and he'll presumably get another chance next week with Raven being suspended, so hopefully he can stake a claim to being Raven's long-term replacement.

Totally fair result today. Raven and McKay couldn't cope with Quitongo in the first half and Ridgers stopped us from being three or four down at half time. We were better with ten men and played some neat stuff in midfield in the second half but I can hardly remember us creating a decent chance, and that has been the story too often in the past few months, even in the games where we've been the better team. I don't know why Robertson seems so reluctant to play Doran: we were crying out for someone to link midfield and attack and run at the Morton defence - Polworth probably should have been doing that, but he was miles off it today - and Doran has played that role before. Also thought it was a strange decision to take off Bell rather than Baird - he had started poorly, but he does have more pace and trickery than Baird, and more of an eye for goal. Unless we can bring in someone who presents much more threat up front in January, which seems unlikely, then we're probably looking at a seventh or eighth place finish.

The trip was still worth it though, if only to be reacquainted with the Norseman and its fine pricing structure.

Four pints for £7.73 wasn't it? Absolutely mind boggling the local community is permanently jaked at those prices.
