Tail of the Bank v The Hedge

Fair but we have not been far away in a few games where if we had been a bit more positive for 90 then we could have been up the league. We have been lacking a decent striker and a bit frail at the back but still with a bit of self belief and different tactics these close games could have been so different

It wasn't the tactics , rather the stupid goals that have been our downfall.  After all it was the five at the back formation that got us in this league in the first place.

It may well have been but it’s been proven not to work in this league so it has been the tactics and some players not being good enough. Bringing us back to mr Dods

In fairness, he has tried a flat back 4 and tinkered with 3 at the back as well as changes in personnel so you can't really say he isn't trying to change things .  Injuries have proven a bit of a b*****d too.  Can you believe McGeever went the whole of last season without picking up an injury then bang , he picks up a major one.  Liam Watt  is another who has had to come back from a long term one and of course Jacko.

It looks like I am trying to make excuses but these were the players that Dods would have been trying to build the team round.    To say that it is purely down to a lack of tactics is pretty lame.

Ok out of those 3 Jacko is our biggest loss. Mcgeever unproven at this level and watty is being played while he looks like he’s overweight so for the team to be built around them leaves a lot to be desired. Only Jacko has played at a higher level to a good standard. Beggars belief that one

You have picked that up all wrong .  I was talking about the preparation for the season and what Dods was probably trying to achieve.  You are talking about the present .

Before his injury McGeever was forming a good partnership with Crighton which is what Dods was probably hoping for.   Most successful clubs work on the basis of having a strong central defensive pairing.  Dods has been left tinkering with Pabs , Fusco  etc trying to find the best option and formation .  As for Watt, we all know what he was capable of with his performances in the last quarter . That is what Dods was looking for this season , in particular a set piece expert .  Watt's injury has obviously  taken its toll on his confidence and match fitness and I think the latter is what Dods is trying to work on at the moment.

When you have a squad the size of ours , injuries have a devastating effect on both morale and tactics .  As I keep saying with a bit of luck we can have an injury free spell to gain some momentum and regularity within the team .
