Dyce would have come to Irvine, but the travel conditions up there would have caused them problems. Firstly, getting players and committee to the meeting point for the bus, and then the bus company itself was reluctant to risk travelling in the expected road conditions.

Perfectly good airport at dyce they could fly down to prestwick no bother

Have you looked into the cost of hiring a (minimum) 20  seat plane for a return tripfrom Aberdeen to Prestwick?

Mind you there are plenty of spare Chinook helicopters standing idle  with the downturn in the North Sea, £5000 would probably get you one for the day.
