East SJFA 2 Week Winter Shutdown - NO FRIENDLIES ?

LTHV have only played 7 league games and three others less than 10, therefore to shut down for 2 Saturdays seems not very clever as far as fixture planning is concerned, particularly if we have a poor winter.

The East Region have made a baws of it.  If they had stuck to their original decision not to play competitively then there should have been no reason not to allow clubs to play friendlies on the Saturdays. Given their late u-turn to allow clubs to ask for competitive games but only giving them 5 days to make up their minds, few of them will but they still can’t play friendlies. Worst of both worlds.

They should have just scheduled a full programme for 23rd December, and then left the 30th to allow clubs to play friendlies if they wanted, a reasonable compromise.

23rd people are out getting xmas shopping. Its actually a busier day than xmas eve in retail. The word on the street is they can play just not on the Saturdays.

As predicted as a possibility due to the weather most teams idle for all of December and quite possibly January. Limited game time for players, no football to watch for Supporters (customers).

Who had the bright idea of limiting it even further by not giving clubs as much flexibility as possible by putting a stop to any Junior clubs having friendlies on 2 Saturday’s in December.

Clueless, the lot of them.

I'd imagine there may be one or two clubs now wishing they'd requested a fixture with mass call offs 3 Saturday's on the bounce and the forecast for the coming week suggesting next weekend may be more of the same in the East.

No guarentee pitches would be playable on those 2 dates but at least it should be an option.

Six or Seven blank Saturday's on the bounce does nothing to help the clubs bank balance either.

I think there will be a couple of cracking games on the 30th. And it's a near certainty the 23rd will have a burst of junior cup ties.

At least in the structure where Kelty have gone the clubs don't just decide they "dinnae fancy it" in the middle of the football season.  Madness.

Any business should have the right to trade when it wants.  The customers will soon let the clubs know if they want games by the attendances.  All this pish about requiring a permit to play against a team outwith your grade is archaic and a restraint on trade.

Surely some teams must be feeling the pinch soon. 3 weeks with no game, another week looks like a wipe out so far and 2 weeks of no games.

I’d have thought wages etc will still be going out and no gate or sponsorship money coming in along with trade at social clubs for those clubs that have them
