General intelligence isn't exactly a prerequisite in professional football.

No it isn't, but there's no denying McInnes is in the upper echelon when it comes to footballers/intelligence

Congratulations to Kenny McLean on sealing his January transfer to Ibrox, should the McInnes appointment go through as expected.

It wont be january, they can;t afford a fee. He'll be pre-contracted.

To be perfectly honest, you have to be a sane Aberdeen fan to know exactly what Derek McInnes has done for our club in the last almost five years.

Yep.

Said it earlier in he thread that you have to look passed results (which are very impressive in them self) to see just how much he's raised the standards across the whole club.

Nothing like a good Sevco feeding frenzy to get some hysterical hyperbole on the go.

This whole saga amounts to a scandal. The biggest scandal Scottish football has faced since the SFA chose to ignore an inquiry into Rangers’ use of EBTs.

During the past six weeks we have witnessed a relentless campaign to completely unsettle and derail a club’s season. Rangers collecting six points from their two meetings with Aberdeen suggest this campaign has had a significant impact. A huge section of our mainstream media, from the BBC to the print press are complicit.

It’s a concerted effort to return to the Old Firm duopoly. Aberdeen are the victims here, but had it been Hibs, Hearts or anyone else who had the audacity to challenge the Old Firm, they would have almost certainly suffered from similar treatment.

This whole drama serves to remind us that Scottish football will always be run for the benefit of two clubs and that we can never expect our media to report on events with integrity.

Scottish football is a grubby, corrupt mess and it makes you wonder why we all invest so much time and money following it.

If you aren’t furious at this, you fucking well should be.

I can't believe one football club has tried to take another football clubs manager. Stop the bus. Let's shut down Scottish football. Pure sevconian.

I can't believe that some people think the comments in the media from ex-Rangers players had any bearing on whether Sevco moved for McInnnes, McInnes accepting or not and the last two results.

If comments by Barry Ferguson and Kris Boyd have played a part in Sevco beating Aberdeen then the Dons should be asking questions of their own players.

Can the media get fined for tapping up a manager under contract?

No. Seeing Derek McInnes was always always avoiding the subject a bit and was probably always interested. Were the media dicks on it? Sure, but they're simply not to blame here.

For 2 years he was up against a dreadful Celtic side, and when you consider that County, ICT, St Johnstone and a Championship Hibs side have also won one trophy in his time I don't think you can put his lack of trophies down to a strong Celtic side winning the last 3. His cup record, and record in most big games, is poor.

You're right in that he has done a good job at getting them more consistent and raising standards, but you also have to factor in the state of the league during his time. Rangers haven't been there/have been a mess, Hearts have been out the league and almost went bust, Hibs have been out the league, Dundee Utd a mess, and for 2 years Celtic had Ronny Deila. He couldn't have hoped for a better climate to finish 2nd a few times. That's not a criticism, and the usual 'you can only beat what's in front of you' line applies, but it's just something that has to be factored in when you're trying to assess how well he's done. He's had it easy.

Is he a manager that has proven he can get a team playing above themselves or overachieving? Absolutely not. Is he someone who has shown he can take an underachieving club and 'sort them out' to get them back to near enough the level they should be playing at? Yes. On that basis I think he'd be a decent appointment for  Rangers for 2-3 years, all going well they could then get someone to take them on further.

Overall I feel McInnes has done a fine job at Aberdeen but you make some good points here. In recent seasons Celtic have been stick on champions but you could say Aberdeen have been stick on for second place given the situations Rangers, Hearts, Hibs and Dundee United.  The Deila years at Celtic were Aberdeen's great chance where the could have and should have much closer in those seasons.

It'll be a bold move by McInnes appointing an 89 year old as his assistant.  He's thinking outside the box, that's for sure.

You'll need a new physio as well if he's coming to your club.

And his guaranteed place in the Scotland squad.
