You seem to have soaked up a fair bit of their fringe culture and ideology.

Not really sure what you're referring to, but I was too busy having fun for it to consciously affect any world view I might have had at the time. If anything, it turned me into even more of a hippy.

In my limited big city experience it's a real mixed bag.

Booze; People seem to be really friendly even in big cities like NYC and Chicago. The bars are second to none. Drink seems pretty expensive but you will pay same for a 7% double IPA as a bud light. I dunno what folk get paid there though. 12 quid for entry level single malt.

Food. The decent eating spots are excellent. The mid range ones drop off a cliff and are fucking slop.

Politics. Being a horrendous c**t seems to be a middle of the road position. The military/flag/anthem fetish is fucking weird and I have never seen anything like it in any other democracy. Genuinely unsettling.

If you have a job presumably you will have health insurance but genuinely sickening to see people begging on street for help with cancer treatment with huge tumours on face.

Sport. The US sports are all fantastic and with time difference you can watch the fitba in the morning and then watch all the US stuff through the rest of the day.

TV : awful stuff. Even when they do get it right (HBO) it's ruined by number of ads.

I'm only down in England and have only been here since earlier on this year but from the experiences I have had I love living away from home but if i'm having a night in not doing much I can feel homesick at times. I've moved away myself though so if you're going with someone else that could probably help that.

Women love the accent if you're single, i'm an ugly c**t but get more here than I could dream of back home.

Indeed. That Hershey stuff does have a faint aroma of bumhole, and tastes worse than the cheapest, skankiest chocolate you'll find at the filthiest pound shop here, even if it's a year past its Best Before date.

I'd have lost a ton of weight if it wasn't for their superb fast food; the b*****ds.

I'm emigrating to the States in exactly one week. I've been spending the last couple of weeks catching up with pals and telling them how much I'll miss them.

f**k it, this is a thread to tell me that I won't pine for the absolute clowns back home. TELL ME I WON'T.

You'll likely no' miss much other than your family and mates - you might pine for stuff like the smell of the brewery on match days and that, who knows?

It's possible that the clowns in the US might piss you  off as much as the ones here.

Should be some caper, though, JT - Godspeed and enjoy!

You'll enjoy it. are you single? Birds will love the accent! Get yourself involved with one of the local sports teams like minor league baseball/football, good way to socialise. Wish I was in your shoes but my mrs won't leave her parents in Scotland. Don't feel bad about leaving, we bottled the yes vote, voted tory and allowed brexit this country is going down the shitter.

Minor league sports are cool as cheap entertainment to have in the background while you hang out with your friends or family at a reasonable price. Especially on the dollar beer nights. People who are too into the teams are stereotyped as very socially awkward or mentally ill. And I have to say that's been my experience of who I see rooting as hard as a college or major pro sport.

I think he's moving for a woman, so unfortunately he already used his accent to steal one of our women.

That's downtown in a major city prices. $2-3 beers can easily be found in most of the country.
