Notice nobody has mentioned the strip searching especially after visits. Just in case your burd/granny/auntie has evaded the visitors search and got some gear in. Could be a long shift if you don't have any visitors. Prisons are pretty petty places for rules. You can't just wonder around the prison. You'll be escorted to visits/kitchen/laundry/nurse etc. And you'll wait till there is somebody available to take you. Then there's the grub. It's basic, very basic. And if your a fussy eater, your effed.

You’re right that sounds petty- they should really just give them a set of keys and let them wander about all day- what could possibly go wrong?

There's been several prison riots linked to the banning of smoking in prison.

There were several protests about petrol going over a pound a litre too.  Now we 'happily' pay way more than a quid a litre.  They'll just have to settle on knocking the top  of it, its what I do when I'm bored. :thumsup2

I wouldn't like to be the screws who have to deal with it if a ban comes in in prisons. I remember being in a police cell waiting for court on Monday and not being allowed smoke and I would have done  anything for a cigarette. It is a bit strange though that about the only plave you can smoke inside these days is in prison

Cut staff, sentence more prisoners, ban smoking. Might as well chuck a few petrol bombs in as well. A non smoker might avoid an infinitesimally higher chance of getting a smoking related disease, so all to the good.

In 1972 I was part of a crack commando unit and was sent to prison for a crime I didn’t commit.

I promptly escaped from the maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground.

Today I am still wanted by the government however I survive as a soldier of fortune.

I assume you mean they spent the best part of 20 banged up over multiple short sentence? I don’t think you’d do
20 Consecutive years unless you’d done something pretty big.

life sentence in instalments as its known

Yeah multiple short sentences.

Most memorable one was a guy continually jailed for making false 999 calls.  In for 6 months out for a couple.  Jail was never going to help that guy.

no,but it helped the emergency services not having to respond to his pish

And it won't get better - when you bang johnny McBaghead up for a fortnight (28-day sentence, out halfway) you're just telling him he can't smoke. At least in Dispersals the Service can try to implement a strategy to help long-termers to give up. In Locals the customers have no intention of giving up - whatever their drug of choice is.

ETA - If Johnny is that rare animal, a con who plans ahead, he can easily get a fortnight's worth of burn up his arse anyway.

Banned smoking in prisons here and handed out nicotine patches.  To get their fix the prisoners boiled the patches up and injected the resulting liquid directly into their veins.

WTF? Were they not provided with instructions?

Hang on, they banned cigarettes but still happily dished out syringes??
