He was always on edge and quite invasive and intimidating, used to sit and watch me eat my lunch while he had nothing and told me how great he was at Thai-bo. I don't think I thought him as a killer, but he quite clearly had a short fuse.

A couple of weeks after I last saw him he did this.

Sounds like a great guy! Prison seems like the best place for him.

I dig the Yank booty's sister's name. Who calls their baby girl 'Sabre'.

I was in jail on numerous occasions when I was younger. Can't say I was too sensible back then, always taking chances that I shouldn't have.
I didn't find it too unpleasant an experience tbh.
My biggest regret was passing go & not collecting my £200.

You were doing it rong if you passed go

I'm happy to accept the mistakes I made as a young lad, but I did like to drive the car 3 times round the board before I shuffled in to do my porridge, a farewell to the lads I done crime with in Whitechapel Rd, and a drive by shooting on Pall Mall.

Notice nobody has mentioned the strip searching especially after visits. Just in case your burd/granny/auntie has evaded the visitors search and got some gear in. Could be a long shift if you don't have any visitors. Prisons are pretty petty places for rules. You can't just wonder around the prison. You'll be escorted to visits/kitchen/laundry/nurse etc. And you'll wait till there is somebody available to take you. Then there's the grub. It's basic, very basic. And if your a fussy eater, your effed.

Scottish prisons ain't Peru or Thailand or America.

You'll be fine.

That's all true, You get used to getting searched though and it's not usually a full strip search. I did look forward to visits but it's strange after them you can feel down as your visitor goes back to the real word and  you go back to your cell.

And being escorted everywhere - there's always someone with you when you are going off your landing and someone that opens the door or the gate for you. Getting out after 18 months it felt strange just being able to eat when I liked, go to bed when I liked and just go for a walk down the shops and buying what I wanted instead of having to order from a list. . Even waking up in the middle of the night and being able to open a door and go to the kitchen or the toilet or make a phone call when you like. People talk about people being institutionalised from being in Prison and I can see how it could happen if you are doing a longish sentence.

But like you said there are much worse places to be in prison that Scotland/England?Ireland. But then I heard that some prisons in places like Norway seem like budget hotels

The thought of sharing a cell with someone sparking up every ten minutes is enough of a deterrent for me.

I'm on my best behaviour from now on...

Nearly everyone in prison smokes. I smoked more when I was in person than I did before it. In England they always ask if you are a smoker or not and they put smokers in with smokers and non smokers with non smokers. In Ireland it wasn't so strict about it but you could ask  to change cells. Thing is if you don't smoke going into prison you would probably take it up inside anyway. I'd say 90% of prisoners smoke.

I heard that they have started banning smoking in prisons in England and going to ban it in Scotland. I think it's madness. I'd hate to be in prison and not be allowed smoke and with the other lads in the same position.

It's almost like they haven't taken that into account; the b*****ds!
