No. It's time they fucked off out of Scottish football.

Problem is who would have them ? The English don't want them, they both carry too much baggage and I cant see any Atlantic League coming into the horizon any time soon. So we are stuck with them.

Scottish football is dire as it is, can you imagine what'll happen if the OF was to leave? Sure it would mean most likely Aberdeen or another team could finally win the SPL but its a product that would loose a heck a lot of sponsorship and  TV money. The OF is what brings a lot of that kind of thing into the league, they both left, they would follow and the league would ultimately die.

No one will win the SPL m8, it doesn't exist. The OF is also a major factor in the problems we have up here. The sooner they go/die the better.

It isn't though, is it? That's always struck me as something that ex-Old Firm players and Facebook English Premier League fans like to squeak about - without ever backing it up.

Scottish football would be just fine without the Old Firm. Just as it would be just fine without the Edinburgh clubs, the Dundee clubs or the Highland clubs. In fact if they ceased to exist then it would stop the 6 busloads that leave Dumbarton each week heading to Glasgow for their football/singing fix - potentially giving us diddy teams a boost crowds wise.

Although there is no reason to suppose that getting rid of the ugly sisters is somehow going to magically fill stadia all over Scotland, it is equally true to suppose that their loss will not suddenly see fans abandon their teams either.

The thought process should be, if Hearts can attract 16,000 in a league set up they have absolutely no chance of ever winning then why would they attract fewer in a league set-up they definitely could win?

It is also perfectly possible that the teams going for the title will see a significant increase in attendance(s). If more than one team is realistically going for it then all the contenders will see a significant increase in attendance.

At the start of any season, how many teams fans will genuinely hope they could win the championship without the gruesome twosome? Certainly the city teams, but also Motherwell? St Johnstone? Kilmarnock?

There is also zero chance of no TV and no sponsorship. The Welsh League, which is largely part-time, is sponsored by a ‘Welsh’ building society and is covered by S4C television, despite 6 of the biggest Welsh clubs playing in the English league system.

I cannot envisage a situation where a league with attendances twenty times greater than the Welsh League would not attract TV coverage and with that comes guaranteed sponsorship.

this was always my reply when you had one of the local old firm fans giving it the "Falkirk, shire and stenny should all merge" crap, I'd say rangers ann celtic should, as the biggest 2 teams in Scotland, set an example and merge, build a 120000 super ground and have a team capable of winning against the best in Europe, with the added bonus of a rangers and celtic end so every game could be like an old firm game with it's own "special" atmosphere!

the Scottish football would die without them argument is just rubbish although it would be changed.
