Hibernian v Motherwell 16/09/17

We were lucky to get away with a draw yesterday.  It's clear Lennon still doesn't know his best team yet and yesterdays team definitely isn't it.  When Motherwell broke yesterday they looked really dangerous and at times we struggled to cope.

Defensively we were all over the place at times, Moult had 2 clear opportunities in the first half which on another day he would have scored.  I can't understand the thinking behind playing Whitty at left back, he didn't want to overlap at all yesterday and defensively I've got the fear any time someone with a bit of pace runs at him. That 3 year deal is starting to look like a f**k up. Get Stevenson back in pronto.

I would prefer to play an attacking midfielder like Slivka or Swanson instead of Murray who was a passenger yesterday. Not sure what's going on with Swanson but he's barely had a look in since the Hamilton game. He could have come on for Barker who was anonymous in the second half. Bringing big Davy on didn't work at all, he literally struggles to move let alone produce any actual football quality.

On a positive note; Stokes, Bartley and McGinn were quite good yesterday IMO.

Really need a win next week as we've got Celtic away after that. Could potentially be looking at 6 without a win.

It's not immediately obvious how you'd set up the rest of the team but we have to start playing Batley, McGinn amd McGeouch in the middle, imo. Bartley and McGinn are two of our best players but those two as a CM partnership is always a bit Beaker-beaker-16860842-440-248.gif

There isn't an ounce of composure in the midfield we played yesterday. Whilst it makes for entertaining, end to end games, our slow defence is getting ripped apart on the break by teams.  We'd lose something going forward but I would much rather McGeouch was in there to slow everything down and control the game.

One point behind the Abbeyhill Bottlers aint bad given our start to the season under Cathro. We were the first to get the ritual rogering from Celtic too and were unlucky not to get 3 points against the Dons.

What's with the Petrie-love btw? Is he not person-non-grata, again, down ER with his Rangers love-in?

It's interesting that the *utter dive* for the Hibs penalty hasn't attracted the attention of the compliance officer. Motherwell (or 'Well fans) haven't made a big deal out of it, presumably due to the fact that we (a) were happy with the outcome of the game and (b) got away with a legitimate penalty for Stokes earlier in the game - but given that we (in theory) have a system in place for retrospective punishment for diving - why is nothing being done when it is as obvious a case as you'll see?

My problem with the whole "compliance officer" thing is the seemingly random nature of the things that end up being "prosecuted". There seems to be no transparent criteria for it ("because Thommo highlighted it on Sportscene" doesn't count) and very similar incidents get treated differently week to week. If the dive from Saturday was in an Edinburgh Derby or when the OF were in town, would it have got the necessary scrutiny? - I'd guess so.

Leaving 'Well games aside given my bias, this season so far has been extremely poor from a refereeing point of view - with basic mistakes and inconsistencies all over the place - but surely the excuses that can be made for Referees (heat of the moment, didn't see it clearly, conned by a clever dive, etc) can't be made for someone who reviews the incidents at Hampden over a cup of coffee on a Monday morning - and with the benefit of multiple viewings. If there can't be consistency in the Compliance dept, it may as well be dumped as a waste of time and money.

So apparently we're appealing Tait's booking for simulation. He definitely throws himself but it's clear that his foot's stood on while he's running, doesn't necessarily mean it was a pen but equally it was a pretty harsh booking in the circumstances.

waste of money imo

The Compliance Officer process seems, to the layman,  to be very inconsistent/random/hit or miss call it what you will.  There doe snot appear to be any rhyme or reason to it.   Certainly  Cummins' dive at Perth and Boyle's dive at Easter Road should both have attracted the attention of his staff but  didn't.  Unfortunatley diving or simulation  has been increasingly common, and in some cases cringeworthy  this season but by and large referees have ignored it.
