If you're interested search the internet for the disreporting Scotland headline sequence that linked Michelle Thomson to a judge handing down a verdict. Pure unadulterated SNPbad in typical BBC style. I don't doubt the state uses everything it has for its own position. Naive to suggest otherwise. I don't know about this particular case. On your words point, it's used interchangeably separatist and independence. the verbs don't completely match to English. Could say separatist is factual I suppose but you will find ABC or La Razon (which are basically propaganda sheets) will always call something separatist while other papers use the words more interchangeably. Who knows what will happening tomorrow. There is no great solution here. I would rather nothing had started really but now it has, Madrid's actions pushes you more towards sympathy for a new state. But then, at what social cost on both sides? It may have been a No (just) if Madrid had just allowed a vote. Now my family and friends will tell their children about the events of 1 October; a legal delay is not going to end the matter. This is a real social crisis. I would also edit to add : I had my opinion about Scotland too. I don't feel that whatever side the vote resulted there was the same social cost at stake. People agreed to disagree. Scotland was a credit to itself on the whole. Edited October 18, 2017 by tirso

Whitburn Vale
Puidgemont and the Catalan government will now at some point over the coming days declare independence. Expect to see thousands of people on the streets guarding Catalan institutions and spanish authorities wading in once more heavy handed and the first casualties being reported. Sooner or later the EU will have to step in before the death toll stacks up.

Sure there was a petition and everything. NotThePars
It doesn't matter if it's the 19th century or the 21st if there's an opportunity for Madrid to completely alienate their peripheral regions then god damn they'll do it with gusto.

paul-r-cfc
Slovenian socialist party seem convinced that Slovenia will recognise Catalonia if independence is declared. Suppose they have recent history with secession but would still be quite a development. Can't say I would have envisaged any EU member states recognising it.Also, Rajoy has sent an angry email to Belgium after Brussels dared to suggest mediation between Madrid and Barcelona. The nerve of them!

Plenty of EU states recognise kosovo so i suppose it's not completely daft to think some EU countries might recognise them.
