We have a SmackDown exclusive PPV taking place on Sunday October 8th 2017, Hell in a Cell. This will follow the 1 hour Pre-Show, 3 hour main card format, live on the WWE Network. For ourselves that means Midnight for the Pre-Show and a 1AM start for the main card. This will take place at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. This will be the 9th edition of the gimmick PPV. Last year, the Raw brand showcased three big championship matches inside the most dangerous structure. It remains to be seen whether the blue brand will try and match this feat.

Confirmed Matches:

Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin vs The Hype Bros (Kickoff Match).

Randy Orton vs Rusev.

Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler.

Natalya (C) vs Charlotte Flair for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.

AJ Styles (C) vs Baron Corbin vs Tye Dillinger for the WWE United States Championship.

The New Day (C) vs The Usos in a Hell in a Cell Match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship.

Shane McMahon vs Kevin Owens in a Falls Count Anywhere  Hell in a Cell Match.

Jinder Mahal (C) vs Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Championship.

At SummerSlam, Jinder Mahal defeated Shinsuke Nakamura thanks to the distraction of The Singh Brothers. On the August 22nd episode of SmackDown, Nakamura was given the opportunity to get revenge on The Singh Brothers in a handicap match, which he won. WWE Champion Jinder Mahal attacked him, but was countered and Nakamura hit the Kinshasa on the champion. The following week, a number one contender match was scheduled between Nakamura and Randy Orton for the September 5th episode of SmackDown. Also, Orton and Nakamura teamed up to defeat Jinder Mahal & Rusev. Orton hit Nakamura with an RKO after the match. The following week, Nakamura defeated Orton to become the number one contender for the WWE Championship and will face Jinder Mahal at the Hell in a Cell PPV.

For the following two weeks, Jinder Mahal and The Singh Brothers have been mocking Shinsuke Nakamura. Mocking his facial expressions and mannerisms which has come across as quite racist. These have been some of the worst segments of the year so far. Shinsuke Nakamura has brushed it all off and said there will be no jokes when he becomes WWE Champion at Hell in a Cell.

On the go-home episode of SmackDown, Shinsuke Nakamura opened the show doing an interview with the delightful Renee Young. The Singh Brothers interrupted to introduce the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. They planned a sneak attack on Nakamura, Mahal came from behind whilst his music was playing. Nakamura fought back briefly but the numbers got the better of him, ending the segment with Mahal hitting his finisher.

At SummerSlam, Commissioner Shane McMahon was the special guest referee for the United States Championship match between Kevin Owens and AJ Styles. During the match, Owens had gone for the pin, but Shane saw that Styles' foot was on the bottom rope so he ordered the match to continue. A frustrated Owens shoved Shane, who shoved back, providing a distraction to allow Styles to pin Owens and retain his championship. On the August 22nd episode of SmackDown, a furious Kevin Owens demanded a rematch. Shane granted Owens one final shot at the WWE United States Championship and also allowed him to pick the referee for the match. Owens picked Baron Corbin after agreeing to give Corbin a title shot in the near future. During the match, Shane took over referee duties after Corbin walked out on the match. Styles took advantage of the ensuing distraction and pinned Owens to retain the championship again.

On the September 5th episode of SmackDown, Kevin Owens confronted Shane McMahon for costing him multiple championship matches. Owens gave him a dressing down about Shane being desperate for attention from his father. Things went south when Shane got into a fight with Owens after warning him not to talk about his children. Subsequently, Shane was suspended indefinitely on orders of his father, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

The following week, Kevin Owens told Daniel Bryan all of the changes he'd make once SmackDown becomes The Kevin Owens Show. He also expressed that he was looking forward to Vince McMahon's arrival later in the show. Vince called out Owens, reinstated his son Shane, and after laughing off the lawsuit threats, scheduled a Hell in a Cell match between the two at Hell in a Cell. Owens agreed on the condition that Vince would allow him to beat a McMahon senseless if provoked. After agreeing and shaking hands, Owens headbutted Vince, gave him a super kick, and then a frog splash from the top rope. Vince refused to be carried out on a stretcher and walked out of the ring, helped by his daughter Stephanie McMahon (her first appearance since WrestleMania 33).

On the September 19th episode of SmackDown, Shane threatened that he would give Owens a beating at Hell in a Cell and warned him of his actions. The same night, Owens, via satellite issued a statement about his attack on the chairman. He apologised for attacking Vince, but blamed Shane for his actions. Stating that Shane made him want to obliterate his father. Owens says that what he did to Vince is nothing compared to what he'll do to Shane at Hell in a Cell.

On the September 26th episode of SmackDown, Owens called out Shane, but was confronted by Sami Zayn, who said that Owens went too far. As the two were about to fight, they were stopped by General Manager Daniel Bryan, who scheduled a match between the two. Owens defeated Zayn by referee stoppage after performing a powerbomb onto the ring apron. After the match, Owens attacked Zayn, but Shane appeared. As he attempted to go after Owens, Owens threw Zayn into Shane and fled through the crowd

On the go-home episode of SmackDown, Shane McMahon announced that their Hell in a Cell match would also be Falls Count Anywhere. Shane and Kevin Owens were scheduled to meet face-to-face ahead of their match on Sunday. Owens didn't go down to the ring so Shane brought the fight to him around the arena. Owens powerbombed him through a merchandise table. Owens then went down to the ring to cut a promo about the match. He loved the idea of Falls Count Anywhere so he can beat Shane anywhere he wants and told him  not to worry about jumping off the cell, because he will throw him off. Shane stumbled back down to the ring and continued to show fight but Owens dominated him and left him lying in the middle of the ring to close the show.

At SummerSlam, The Usos defeated The New Day to regain the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship. They faced each other again on the September 5th episode of SmackDown, the winner able to choose the stipulation for the following week's championship match. The Usos won the match and chose a Street Fight to take place on the Sin City episode of SmackDown. The New Day won the Street Fight which was great and became four time tag team champions.

The following week, The Usos invoked their rematch clause and the match will take place at the Hell in a Cell PPV. This is being advertised as the end point of the feud. Also on the show, The New Day defeated The Hype Bros.

The following week, The Usos this time defeated The Hype Bros. The New Day were in the crowd enjoying themselves with popcorn. The Usos said that New Day belong on the sidelines with everyone else in the WWE Universe and that at Hell in a Cell they'd be looking at the five time tag team champions. The New Day pulled a mic out of the popcorn and said that The Usos were talking a big game despite having just lost the belt. They also said they don't want to just defend the WWE SmackDown Championship at Hell in a Cell, they want to defend it INSIDE Hell in a Cell. The match was made official shortly after.

On the go-home SmackDown, The Usos read The New Day their rights. Usos stated that Hell in a Cell is similar to the Uso penitentiary. They also stated that they have elevated the tag team division to a whole new level. The New Day came out and said every time they face off they have the best match of the night and that nobody knew the tag team division could be this good. The New Day said they are going to leave The Usos lying in their own day one ish at Hell in a Cell.

AJ Styles brought back the United States Open Challenge on the August 29th episode of SmackDown after concluding his feud with Kevin Owens. Baron Corbin had made his intentions known to AJ beforehand but when it came to the challenge actually being answered, Tye Dillinger got their first. AJ Styles retained over Dillinger and Dillinger was subsequently attacked by Baron Corbin, AJ made the save.

The following week, Baron Corbin faced and defeated Tye Dillinger thanks to some dirty tactics. AJ Styles was on commentary for this match. Styles caught up with Dillinger backstage and offered him a US title match for next week, to which Dillinger accepted. On the September 12th episode of SmackDown, Baron Corbin attempted to interfere in the US title match but AJ Styles fought him off and went on to retain over Dillinger. Both men shook hands after a good match but were attacked by a raging Corbin who declared himself as the next challenger.

On the September 26th episode of SmackDown, Baron Corbin once again took on Tye Dillinger whilst AJ Styles was on commentary. Corbin won by count-out after he threw Dillinger into AJ Styles. Corbin took to the mic afterward and declared he'll be taking the United States Championship away from AJ Styles. A match between the two was then scheduled to take place at the Hell in a Cell PPV. On the go-home episode of SmackDown, we had Corbin vs Dillinger AGAIN. Dillinger won via roll-up this time. After the match Styles appeared on the TitanTron to have a dig at Corbin for squandering every opportunity he's ever had.

At SummerSlam, Natalya defeated Naomi to become the new WWE SmackDown Women's Champion. This is only her second Championship in WWE, her first run as Divas Champion ending at the 2011 Royal Rumble. Natalya then successfully defended against Naomi on the Sin City SmackDown episode. Despite being on commentary, still no sign of MITB briefcase holder Carmella cashing in yet.

The following week on the September 19th episode of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair made her return and thanked the WWE Universe for their support and wishing her father Ric Flair back to good health. She gave an update on his recovery status but was rudely interrupted by Women's Champion Natalya. Charlotte Flair was glad Natalya interrupted her and got back to business by challenging her to a Championship match. This prompted Becky Lynch, Naomi, and Tamina to also come out. General Manager Daniel Bryan scheduled a fatal four-way to determine the number one contender. Charlotte Flair won the match and will now face Natalya for the title at Hell in a Cell.

On the September 26th episode of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair defeated MITB holder Carmella. After the match Natalya came out to say she was happy that Ric Flair is recovering, so he can see his daughter fail at Hell in a Cell. On the go-home episode of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair and Becky Lynch took on Natalya and Carmella in tag team action. Natalya and Carmella won after Natalya made Charlotte Flair tap out to the Sharpshooter. This happened as a result of Charlotte being distracted by Carmella attacking Becky Lynch with the MITB briefcase.

For a number of weeks, Dolph Ziggler (who had been off TV for several months) returned and impersonated many past and present WWE superstar entrances. He claimed that the WWE Universe did not care about in-ring ability and claimed he is the best in-ring performer in WWE. They only care about flashy entrances and catchphrases. This carried on until Dolph Ziggler made his entrance on the September 26th episode of SmackDown as The Undertaker. This finally prompted a response from Bobby Roode who called Ziggler a hypocrite. Roode then challenged to a match at Hell in a Cell to let Ziggler prove just how good he is in the ring, to which Ziggler accepted, after saying that Roode is everything that is wrong with WWE.

On the go-home episode of SmackDown, Bobby Roode squashed Mike Kanellis. After the match, Dolph Ziggler came out to taunt Roode. Ziggler says that on Sunday he'll have an entrance unlike anything that has been seen before. He also said that he'll expose Roode as soon as the bell rings. Roode had a dig at the entrance Ziggler just did and then showed him how it's done with everyone doing GLORIOUS.

At SummerSlam, Randy Orton defeated Rusev in a matter of seconds. Rusev returned the favour on the following SmackDown beating Orton in seconds. In celebration of his victory, Rusev was presented with the key to his hometown in Bulgaria. He had Aiden English sing a celebratory song about Rusev and the mayor officially named September 26th as RUSEV DAY.  The celebration was cut short however when the viper Randy Orton came OUTTA NOWHERE to hit both English and Rusev with RKO's. Another match between Orton and Rusev is now scheduled to take place at Hell in a Cell.

Nothing interesting on the go-home show in regards to this feud. Orton defeated Aiden English once again. Rusev was at ringside.

It was announced on the go-home episode of SmackDown that Chad Gable and Shelton Benjamin will face The Hype Bros. This match will take place on the Kickoff Show. The Hype Bros are looking to get back on track after a series of defeats on SmackDown Live and tensions have arisen between Zack Ryder and Mojo Rawley.  Gable and Benjamin are a recently made team, put together by General Manager Daniel Bryan. He managed to bring back Shelton Benjamin after Gable's partner Jason Jordan was traded to Raw to be with his da.

Breezango will return this Sunday with another edition of The Fashion Files.

The official theme of this PPV remains the same as last year. Breakin' Outta Hell by Airbourne.

Things have accelerated a bit here. Bobby Roode vs Dolph Ziggler and AJ Styles vs Baron Corbin official. Hope Tye Dillinger gets added to US title match.

As of me posting this not official yet but New Day challenged The Usos to have the title match inside Hell in a Cell. Orton also challenged Rusev. Neither have responded yet.

It looks like a solid enough card.

The HIAC being falls count anywhere is an odd one. Although they've never really settled on the rules of the match in that sense. They've had matches end outside the ring before, yet other matches have seen falls out of the ring ignored, so at least that clarifies things a bit.

Anyone fancy Kane making an appearance?
I know he's other stuff on, but it's 20 years since his debut, during the first HIAC. Maybe too much a cliche, I think the younger me is bursting remembering watching it unfold live. I was a tired boy at school the next day.

Yup. Part of me hoping Corbin takes the title from Styles so he and Dillinger can fight for it whilst Styles is then put into the WWE title picture and sets up a feud with KO (although that WrestleTalk TV rumour of him going back to Raw does have some intrigue)

Anyone watching this tonight?  I think I will as it's not until next week I switch back to day shift. The WWE Championship match is going to be awful. Neither of them are good enough to be in this position.

i’m off work for 2 weeks so i’ll be watching this when i wake up. Only looking forward to the HIAC matches tbh.
