Does it?

Yes.  It absolutely does.

Another failure to beat a lower league side in 90mins.  Indeed, we came very close indeed to losing this one.

If that bodes well for you, all the best with those expectations.

It was the “getting out of jail” part of your post I was referring to. Those stats would suggest a pretty fair result.

As for expectations, as always with Queens mine are pretty low. The big picture will sort itself out. We’re into the next round, that’s all that matters tonight.

I don't think the 'getting out of jail' line is misplaced when a side scores an extremely late equaliser against a side two divisions beneath them.

I don't care how much we might  have dominated play.  We got out of jail today.

And had Webby's raker in first half of ET been an inch lower it could have been a different story.

I think Martin touched that onto the bar and even if he didnt he was damned close to it. If it had been lower he would have saved it albeit it was a great effort.

Montrose played well first half though. Knocked the ball around nicely. Were much sharper out of the traps than us. Worth their lead probably. The first half was as bad as we have played since the Albion Rovers Scottish Cup loss. That said the keeper made a terrific save from Kane and Stirling hit the bar.

Second half we started brighter. Dykes made a big difference and forced two more excellent saves from Fleming. McFadden and Murray both improved us too when they came on with Montrose basically camped in their last 30 yards for the last 20 mins but you couldnt see the goal coming and then it opened up for Dobbie. He had as bad a game as I have seen him have for us but hammered in a crucial equaliser much like the one at Stenny in the BetFred Cup.

Extra time was, with the exception of that one break forward they hit the bar at, just a question of could we score. Murray nearly did when McFadden's wonderful pass played him in and then Dykes did in a very similar goal to the one that beat Linfield last season. They were never coming back from that but Dobbie's remarkable finish which he seemed to somehow spin round the post put the nail in the coffin.

Not pretty, especially first half but the win is the thing.

Thought Callaghan had a terrific game. Lots of composure. Watson did well too.

Fleming a definite mom for me. Dobbs trying to win it on his own again - strikers weren’t really linking up for the first half. Think Montrose were the better team for the first half and bits of the second but ran out of steam. Hard luck for them. Only pass marks in first half for me was Marshall at left back. Overall positives Dykes looked sharp and gave us a high option when we needed it. Murray teased when he had the ball. Faddy definitely has something to offer but I’m not sure it’s the mazy winger he thinks he is. Could he be a playmaker in the centre? Stlll not sure Rooney offers enough going forward to make up for his defensive frailty. At fault for the goal again today.

Guys why are you all so negative, we got to witness history as Scott Mercer became the first fourth sub for Queens ever. One to tell the grandchildren about and say I was there.

With the way our team plays, the chances of an upset are a lot higher than they should be,  we lack a great deal of width, pace or quality and the middle isn't good enough on the ball to justify congesting it. Against a side that's in your face and physical  like Montrose we weren't far from yet another bad result against lower league opposition. Instead like the Annan game a couple of seasons ago we managed to escape with a result once they ran out of steam.

Sticking with largely the same side as last week wasn't the right call, Kane and Dobbie haven't linked up well at all so far and Naysmith last week said had to shift Kane out wide to protect Rooney, so he really should  not be surprised  when a goal comes from the right hand side. The fact Kane's now descended into the Graeme Weir/ Stewart Kean territory of 'aye he doesn't score  but he works hard though' is not boding too well. Dykes this season has been a lot better and today he was putting himself about and links up nicely with Dobbie. If you don't have the midfielders to outplay sides then having someone who can hold the ball up and spread the play to allow Dobbie more space is vital.

The Montrose keeper with his  sublime German Pornstar locks was on top form but Montrose approached this game very well, they ran out of steam eventually but they dictated the play for large stretches, kept us at arms length with men behind the ball for most of the second half. Watson impressed me in the middle

Highlights included Alan Martin doing a beautiful roulette turn pasts the oncoming forward, a  Montrose fan chanting we want 10 at the half,  and another Montrose fan giving McFadden shit about his hair despite the fact it's the kind of hair you could set your watch to.  One more game and I can take this competition seriously...

Drifter, where was Del Lyle today? Still think Dobbie & him are best pairing upfront

That's the question I was asking too.

Absolutely agree they are the most effective and potent pairing we have.

Not surprised to read from those there that link-up was pretty non-existent.

Del is superb at making that happen.

I believe then you were stood within earshot of Hamish. He always wants 10. Credit to him.

I thought Connor McLaren's pirouette to get by 3 players was classy, only for your keeper 30 seconds later to do it in the 6 yard box to escape the onrushing Templeman. Certainly got a laugh from both sets of fans where I was stood.

That's two games in a row that the opposition keeper has had MoM performances so it's maybe a bit harsh to slate our forwards for not capitalising on statistically having more chances, etc. As expected, Montrose worked very hard for each other to stop us settling into a rhythm and took a deserved lead. Dykes replacing the ineffectual Kane at half time gave us a bit more threat up front and the whole team seemed to step up a gear. I must say as someone who has been less than complimentary about Dykes' performances in the past, I thought he put in a great performance yesterday, plenty of running, not letting defenders settle and topping it off with a good goal. If he would show that attitude and ability on a regular basis he might not get the stick he sometimes does. As for Dobbie, plenty of trickery and of course looked our most obvious source of goals, but it looked like it was going to be another frustrating day for him until  he cracked home an unstoppable shot and then added another from what looked an impossible angle. Hard luck on Montrose who were well in it until they started to tire and their keeper thoroughly deserved his MoM award.
