Why is it not regional

Well, it's our national cup and really, Scotland is a small country. In worldwide terms, most clubs are pretty close, obviously there's some outliers, but you'd expect most clubs to be a couple of hours away at most. It's not like it's every game. Anyway, Stirling Uni play UK-wide in the BUCS leagues, so I'm sure a trip to Wick isn't too daunting for them.

Even then distance doesn't seem to stop France,  AS Dragon of Tahiti did a 30,000 km round trip to lose 9-0 to US Avranches last season...

Scottish Junior Cup (160+ entrants) also nationwide, and Scottish Amateur Cup (600+ entrants) from Last 256.

Incidentally the Scottish Cup has been fully nationwide since 1895.

So the first couple of rounds in the amateur cup are local ties

Alloa Athletic have got the park that day so BSC-Dalbeattie will have to change days. Possibly the Sunday? - a bit far to expect Dalbeattie to travel if on a school night.

Edinburgh City also due 'home' that day. Not sure what the deal between them & Spartans says about who gets priority use of Ainslie Park...

City will get priority for the league game same as Alloa, Clyde, Stenny and Falkirk  do sharing with Lowland League sides.

Aye, but they're competing without prizemoney, generally playing in front of 2 men-and-a-dog, and it goes nationwide from the Last 256.

There are fewer than 100 clubs in the Scottish Cup, prizemoney is £2k per round (increasing by £2k per round from R2) plus media and rights payments of a few hundred £ and up to £500 per tie in travel grants (IIRC), and clubs halve gates of usually at least a couple of hundred people. Clearly more burdensome in the Amateurs.

Do amateur teams like Colville Park need to play at a ground that complies with SFA standards??

Yes. And (as with all clubs) they have to name one ground that will be used throughout, not pick and choose on a round-by-round basis.

When they were in it for the first time last season, Colville Park were offered several options by the SFA. Of those they chose Benburb Juniors' New Tinto Park. They have named the same venue as this season's Scottish Cup home.

Glasgow University have been using The Excelsior Stadium in Airdrie for all cup competitions for a while now. The last time they played a Scottish Cup tie at their Garscube complex (on just a roped-off pitch) was just before the rules were tightened up. Lost 1-9 vs Cove Rangers of the Highland League in the Preliminary Round on Saturday 16th August 2014. Just over a hundred of us at that one, knowing it would be the last Scottish Cup tie to be played there.
