Sir John Maxwell took up the baton in 1882-83 and drew 1-1 with Woodlands before winning the replay 5-3.

In R2 he beat Port Glasgow Athletic 5-3 but they protested (why?) and the replay went against him 2-6, so something funny was going on.

(Incidentally that season in R3 the Arthurlie v Thornliebank tie was ordered replayed as "the ball was more oval than round" :lol:)

Following season he went down 5-3 at Greenock Northern.

see my earlier comments about use of the phrase "sterling effort" - I think this should now mean feckless, ineffectual pissing about to no real useful purpose, with misleading flashes of genius thrown in every once in a while, and having a silver bidet....
