I don't, but i'd have to assume the assoc. followed the rules at the time otherwise there would have been a challenge.

I was just saying that it was fair they were relegated, before db11 raised his point.

I suspect the playoff wouldn't have happened if Kelty had announced their intention to leave at that point - forfar would have gone straight up.

It was well known K£lty we’re leaving before any play-off took place. The play-off also went ahead before the full completion of the league fixtures.

The fact you think it’s fair that a team finishing 3rd in the Premier should go up ahead of Musselburgh regardless explains why the majority of your contributions are having a go at Newbies.

But you are all the "Newbies".

Struggling with this to be honest.

'The play off also went ahead before the full completion of the league fixtures'

The bottom 3 in the top league completed their league games on the 20th May and the make up of the top 3 in the prem the same day.

Are you suggesting the 2 teams who knew they would be in a play - off on the 20th May and hadnt played a league game since the 1st of May wait till the 10th June (40 days after their last game) to play their game?

Suggesting everyone knew Kelty were In the EOS before the play off is wrong. The EOS had to vote (the same as junior teams do to admit new teams) to let Kelty in. Kelty made the announcement around the 12th June 2017.

On the point of fairness the blame doesn't stand with Kelty or any of the teams, the blame is with the SJFA/ESJFA. Not having a simple rule of 6 months notice given to them for teams wanting to leave.

They had close shaves with Ballingry and Forfar in previous seasons and didnt do anything to prevent this from happening.

With that rule in place everyone would have known the score in December. It would have still been 2 up and 1 play off from the prem as that was the agreed situation at the start of play. 1 down and 1 play off from the super. Relegation altered from the premier league also.

So to clear this up, your issue should be with the region.

Asking Musselburgh to play Saturday - Monday - Saturday - Wednesday - Saturday to rush through their league fixtures isn't fair

Asking Nitten to play Saturday - Wednesday - Saturday - Monday to rush through their league games to finish on the 1st of May - then putting both them and Forfar on freeze till the 27th May isnt fair.

And teams leaving once the season is finshed with no notice given isn't fair.

The only constant in all of the above is the region and your posts should be directed towards them.

Please get back to the positive Musselburgh posts that have made reading the previous 19 pages of this forum so enjoyable and I hope Musselburgh who are 41 points from 16 games can pick up another 30 from their last 14 to break the Premier League points record of 70

League match 17 of season for Musselburgh. This weekend's visitors to Olivebank are St Andrews. Earlier in season Burgh won two matches at St Andrews, 3-0 in league and 5-1 in cup.

As it is 1st v 3rd, not a gimmie for Musselburgh but they should be confident of another 3 points at the end of this fixture.

Later today, Musselburgh play at home to St Andrews in a league match.

Yesterday, the draw was made for the third round of the East of Scotland cup. Musselburgh will face an away tie, to another Fife team, Dundonald.

As Musselburgh hope for a return to the Super League next season, this is a good a time as any to see how we may fare when we get there.

Last season, Dundonald beat Musselburgh home and away in the league. However, if the Fife and Lothians Cup, we got a victory against Dundonald at their ground. Looking forward to this tie.

Match 17 of the league campaign, with St Andrews the visitors to Olivebank this afternoon. Musselburgh had already beaten St Andrews twice at their ground this season; 3-0 in the league, and 5-1 in a cup tie.

Before the match started, both teams made their way to the centre circle. There was a minute’s applause in memory of Mark Aitken, who had been on Musselburgh Athletics committee. Mark sadly passed away last week.

First goal of match came in 5 minutes. Conor Thomson took corner, with Brad Donaldson running towards the goal line, to glance a header towards the net. It was cleared off the line by a St Andrews defender, but only to Stephen MacDonald who left footed the ball into the net, and 1-0 to Musselburgh.

On 9 mins, it should have been 2-0. Ewan Ralton picked up the ball mid way in the oppositions half. Ralts passes a great ball up the right wing to Matti Lynch, who ran into the box, and squared ball, where Mathu King and Stephen were waiting. Unfortunately the ball went behind both players, so it remained 1-0.

Equiliser came in 11 minutes, when Matti Lynch fouled a St Andrews player just outside the left hand side of goal area. Once the ref spoke to Matti, Scott Lawrie  lined up the free kick, which went round the right hand side and into the top right hand side of the net. Musselburgh players were all static, and a great goal from the centre forward.

On 15 minutes, St Andrews awarded a corner kick, which was taken by Michael Fleming. He hit a long ball to where Lawrie was standing at the edge of the box, but his shot was wide of the target.

Mathu had the ball in the net in 18 minutes, but the ref had called for offside. The not so young squad at the right hand side of the enclosure were not happy with the decision and their loud shouts showed the ref what they felt about that call. A couple of minutes later, Sean Murphy fell to the ground, and after a couple of minutes, was helped off by the physio. When the ref came back onto the pitch, he appeared to suggest an elbow connected with Skip’s  nose, which after the match, there was a suggestion it had been broken. Skip came back onto the pitch, with what looked like two lollipops sticking out of his nostrils to stem the blood making a mess of his strip!

On 24 minutes, Musselburgh were awarded a free kick, which eventually was crossed into Ralts, whose header was saved by the keeper. A couple of minutes later, it was 2-1 to St Andrews. Jonno McManus had the ball on the right hand side of the field, when he was dispossessed by Paul Quinn. The forward ran the ball towards the Musselburgh goal, and curled in a great shot to the top left hand side of Ryan McGurk’s net. Best of the three goals so far!

St Andrews were awarded a free kick on 28 minutes. Lawrie attempted to score his 2nd goal, but his kick came off the wall for a free kick. When this was taken, it fell to Lawrie again. He had his back to the goals, and when he attempted to turn and shoot, the ball went way passed the post.

On 34 minutes, Ralts was tackled in the St Andrews half. Jack Wilson then crossed the ball towards Derek Wallace, whose diving header was saved by Ryan. A couple of minutes later, Musselburgh was awarded a free kick on the St Andrews 18yard box, following a good move between Ralts and Skip. Conor Thomson kicked ball over the wall which brought a great save from Lee Wilson.

Wilson then made another fine save 2 minutes later. Matti Lynch picked up the ball and passed it towards Conor who ran into the St Andrews box, and his shot was well saved.

The first booking of the match came in 40 minutes. Brad Donaldson made a darting run through the middle of the park, and was brought down by St Andrews player Liam McDaid, who received a yellow card. From 30 yards out, Conor took the free kick which brought out a diving save from Wilson.

Two minutes later, came the end of Brad’s game. There was a crunching tackle deep in Musselburgh’s half. The ball trundled out for a by-kick but Brad remained down. When the physio came on, he immediately signaled that Brad would play no further part. As soon as he left the pitch, he made his way to the dressing room. If you check Musselburgh twitter or Facebook pages you will see a small crater in Brad’s chin the size of a stud - ouch!

Musselburgh’s first booking came in injury time. There appeared to be a strong 50-50 challenge between Mathu and McDaid, close to St Andrews penalty area. Ref blew his whistle. Mathu stood up first, and very surprisingly received a yellow card, which I am not sure was warranted. After treatment, McDaid was led off park, and soon after the first half ended, with score 2-1 for St Andrews.

Second  half started with Ryan Gay coming on as a sub for Brad, and McDaid coming back on for St Andrews, though his movement wasn’t that great. Two minutes into the half, Ryan had his first shot which went over the St Andrews bar. A minute later Musselburgh got a corner.  Ball came into the box, and met by Mathu. His shot was blocked, and eventually fell to Jed Davie whose long range shot was easily saved by Wilson.

McDaid only lasted 6 minutes of the half, being replaced by Scott Orrock. A couple of minutes later, the equiliser came for Musselburgh. This followed a good move  with the ball played through the middle of the park to Ralts, who passed the ball to Conor. A dinky pass from Conor was passed in front of Stephen, who, with a rasping shot, blasted the ball past Wilson and into the net.

On 56 minutes, there was a good move, with neat play from Skip, who played ball to Stephen, who heeled it back to Ralts. However, his shot from outside the box, went straight to the keeper. In the next 10 minutes or so, the tempo of the match increased. Considering the amount of rain that had fallen, there was a lot of good play from both sides.

On 71 minutes, from the middle of the park, the ball was played through to Musselburgh’s Ralton, who picked up the ball on the 18 yard line. Ralts turned a St Andrews player and squared the ball to Mathu, who coolly slotted the ball passed Wilson’s left hand side and into the back of the net, for Musselburgh’s third goal.

Just after going 3-2 down, Jack Wilson was replaced by Daryl Falconer. A couple of minutes later, Skip, playing after a couple of missed matches, collected the ball just inside St Andrews half, and played some silky football, passing a great ball through the middle of the defence to Conor who’s shot crossed in front of the goal line and out for a goal kick.

Towards the end of the match there 3 substitutions were made. Bradley Whyte replaced Ralts; a big cheer for Jackie Myles coming on, in place of Mathu, and for St Andrews, Ross Cunningham on for Dylan Honeyman. In the final minute, despite claiming innocence, Scott Main was booked for a foul on Stephen.

Shortly after, the final whistle was blown with Musselburgh winning 3-2.

It is five months since Musselburgh last played St Andrews. Whilst Musselburgh continue their march, hopefully back to the Super League, St Andrews seem a much better side, both physically and the way they move the ball around the pitch.

Sean Murphy was today’s supporters club man of match. He had a good match, particularly in the 2nd half. All credit to him as he perhaps played more than half the match with a broken nose.

Two other players who might have got the award were Stephen MacDonald and Gary Cherrie. Don’t think players who score most goals should automatically be given best player, but Stephen’s 2nd goal was a cracker and he did a lot good work throughout the match. Gary, especially for his performance in the last 45 mins deserved a mention.

Delighted with the news that Brad Donaldson has chosen to extend his contract! #MonTheBurghIMG_0056.jpg

Great news, and hope it is for the reasons stated at the top of the caption as opposed to just feeling sorry for the nasty injury that Brad endured this afternoon!

Indeed,  hope all the current squad stay next season.  If we get promotion to Super League, thing this bunch of players will do well!

Think last year a lot of Musselburgh fans thought we were too good to get relegated, though that wasn’t the case.

Musselburgh are in a great position, and as you say Brycey have the points in the bag. But we just need to play as we are, keep winning, and wait to see what happens. Mind you, I’d rather be where we are than any other team in the league!

Mon the Burgh

How do u know the 3 new players will be paid? Just hope it doesn’t get to the players cause weather there paid £5-£100 a week they will all be talking about the fact the club might be struggling. That’s what players do. Getting beat by Kirriemuir might be the start of it. The wages some guys will be on will cover there payments on a car or that so to say some are no doing it for money could be wrong. The money certainly helps some guys. Others just play for the fun of the game of course.

Kirriemuir still the only team, so far to beat Musselburgh in the league this season.  You know the score from last week, and yesterday we went 2-1 down against a good side in St Andrews, but the players rose to the challenge, upped the tempo in 2nd half for a 3-2 win.

Yesterday, we had a player who was injured, but played on despite the possibility of a broken nose. Another player who had to get 6 stitches for an injury he got playing. He wanted to play on, but was told he required treatment at the hospital.

New players are coming to Musselburgh and players/ management already at the club are extending their contracts.

So, getting beat by Kirriemuir might be the start of what Belter?

And,  does what I mention above appear to you in any way to suggest players and management unhappy with goings on at Olivebank?

On Saturday, Musselburgh are away to Glenrothes for a league match.

So far we have played Downfield, Tranent and St Andrews home and away in the league, winning each match. Hopefully this will be Musselburgh’s 4th home/away win double!

Still to play Haddington in the League! Hopefully this fixture will be announced soon.

See Casey Jones is running in the last race at Newcastle tonight! In with a chance of winning? Or has it as much chance as Tranent beating Blackburn tomorrow?

So both won, one a favourite and one an outsider; so miracles do happen!

The horse: slowly into stride, held up towards the rear, headway halfway, chased leaders over 2f out, driven to lead inside final furlong, Ran on well

Tranent: Always in control, Led at half-time, went clear long before the finish, eased up, unchallenged.

Ha ha, good analogy but outcome could have been slightly different due to recent events.

Tranent: slowly into   stride,  but picked up during the session. Got into the mix, but couldn’t catch up. In the end, lost by a short head, once again.

The horse, Always in control and aware of its own ability.  Knows when to assert pressure, and also, when to ease to victory, as it did last night.
