We use Marco's or the round O in Arbroath or the Quayside or whatever its called in Gourdon.
If you found yourself heading down the coast I would definitely bypass the Bay chippy in Stonehaven to go to Gourdon, you'll never look back.

If in Glasgow. Marios on Byers Rd or The West End Fish Bar in Woodlands are recommended.

Avoid the Philadelphia on Gt West Rd like the plague it is rotten. Obv have some friends in the Evening Times as they continually win regional awards.

There are 2 Marco's in Arbroath - I assume you mean the one at the Shore? That would be my first choice. Round O is a good call too.

On the West Coast, George Street Fish & Chips in Oban (opposite Waterstones) is the best I've found.

I like a fish supper from Francos, a local one to me in Dalkeith.

Although I have not had a fish from there, an honourable mention has to go to the chipper (bring it on jimbo) on Glasgow road in Corstorphine, Bar-b-que, as the chips are usually really good. Plus it's open at lunchtimes.

On a side note, a few years ago almost every chip shop in Edinburgh was open at lunch time, irrespective of having a school near to it or not. Nowadays you could almost count on one hand the amount of chippies that open at lunchtime. One that I often used in Longstone has now closed at lunchtime. All these health freak chunts have spoiled it for the rest of us:angry:

When I stayed over that way the Philadelphia was always good.  Haven't been in in 4 or 5 years mind you.

The Wee Hurrie in Troon is excellent. There will be some Ayrshire bumpkins insisting that it's 'shite' and that their greasy village bin is much better: disregard this posturing nonsense. A fish supper is enough for two people given the portion size.

The Merchant Chippy is the best one in the centre of Glasgow. The Clyde Riviera doesn't specialise in chip chops, but Orangefield or Giannis around Greenock West station are probably the best of the typical chip shops. Arlecchinos in the town centre is more of an Italian restaurant with takeaway options and only does a breaded fish supper - it's not bad.

Philadelphia was fine the last time I went (must have been three or four months ago now). Until I moved back East I had the pleasure of living around the corner from the West End Fish Bar, and it's very good indeed.

Last time I was in Peppos was 2001 and it was an awesome fish supper, I mean outstanding. So I'm wary to go back now incase I get a huge disappointment, think I might just let the legend live on.

Have to say chips and things in ferry Street in Montrose is a good sold chippy, nice dry chips and a crunchy batter, that would be my local as it were.

Golden Chip in Dunfemline. If you have to visit Fife, might as well go there. You can get a Steak Bridie from the bakery just a few doors along too.

Does it do a red pudding supper? This should be the first item of business on the tourist information signs, instead of falsely directing people to Dunfermline 'city centre'.

My eyes only zoom in on "fish supper" or "pizza supper" but a quick google reveals that yes, they do a red pudding supper https://www.goldenchip.co.uk/menu.html . Calamari rings sounds a bit high-brow for Dunfermline.
