Connecticut

I briefly was in Unionville CT a couple of years ago. There's not a massive amount to do in Hartford but I believe New Haven is better. All the family stuff like the aquarium and submarine is south east of the state.

It would be worth going to Boston tbh. People pay £1000 just to go to Boston on holiday so you should take advantage of fairly close.

Personally I don't like a lot of North Easterners. They are brash and unfriendly.
Maybe something to be aware of in case you encounter that.

Have fun.

Half right in my experience, they are as you said either really unfriendly or the complete opposite and really helpful and chatty. I found there was no in between with people in Boston.

My wife's from Connecticut so I'm back there a couple of times a year. In fact, I was there last weekend. It's true that there's not a huge amount to do or see to the extent that the first three things I'm going to recommend involve leaving Connecticut.

  • Get the train to Boston.
  • Get the train to New York.
  • Drive to Newport, Rhode Island.
  • There's an amazing little shack of a restaurant in Norwich called Philly's that does the best philly cheesesteak outside of Philadelphia.
  • Mystic Aquarium is worth a visit. Mystic Pizza isn't worth a visit. Loads of great seafood restaurants down there and an old-fashioned movie theater.
  • The Mohegan Sun Casino outside Uncasville and Foxwoods in Ledyard are two of the largest casinos in the US. I like Mohegan Sun.
  • Ocean Beach Park in New London is nice. Captain Scott's Lobster Dock is an amazing hole in the wall place.

Where are you going to be based?

You're well placed, then, for all the wee coastal towns and state parks that are on the ocean. Stay off I-95 and take US1 along the coast, through Mystic, and if you get the chance to visit Newport then take it. Great wee place. Have fun!

Hartford is the insurance capital of the world. Says it all.

Amazingly, I actually got my Nat King there. On a Tuesday night.

I quite like Connectthedots.

Connecticut is probably one of the most boring areas on this sad little planet. Seriously, when I was there during my costrsuction contract work, I had absolutely nothing to do. hartford is the most up-its-arse boring town I've ever seen. No disrespect to the people, but I would not survive living there constantly. There's also the problem of good restaurants around there being hard to find. The only oneI can remember is the Salute in Hartford, but that was all.

I honestly don't see why would anyone have spent leisure time there.

Mostly spent at a beach with family, I agree there's not much to do.
