So, coming up it's Adelaide United v Central Coast Mariners for me followed by Perth Glory v Melbourne City.

Any recommendations for Adelaide CBD boozers, and a good pre-match boozer near Hindmarsh for some scran and a beer?

Will be with the brother-in-law and his mates for the game in Perth so no need for guidance there.

If you are staying in the CBD then tram travel to the Entertainment Centre, less than 5 minutes walk to Coopers Stadium, is free. Near Hindmarsh the Governor Hindmarsh and the Lady Daly on Port Road are OK. If you like craft beer then the Wheatsheaf, George Street, Thebarton is good but about 15 minutes walk. There are a few other pubs the Joiners Arms is over the road from the ground but haven’t been in there for years.

Which suburb or part of the CBD will you be based?

Sydney are just un-fucking-stoppable at the moment. I didnt think they'd played that well yet v they've tanned Melbourne Citeh 4-0.

Thought it was brilliant when Fornaroli comes on to a brilliant reception, and then Bobo just shut them up as soon as it happened. A proper "pipe doon" moment.

We have a hotel on Rundle Mall, so pretty central.

We have a hotel on Rundle Mall, so pretty central.

Rundle Street runs off Rundle Mall and it has loads of good eating places and almost all licensed. If you like steak try Sosta Argentine restaurant. Plus the popular pubs The Austral and the Exeter. Further down the street is the Stag and just off the street is the Elephant and there is also a Belgian Beer Cafe. There are too many pubs within walking distance to list. Avoid West End Draught, the local brew, as it is utterly shite.

ETA: The Coopers Alehouse on Pulteney Street, less than 10 mins walk, is worth a visit as has all Coopers beers plus the probably the biggest schnitzels in Adelaide.

Cheers for the tips, Coopers Alehouse was on the list.

That was a huge chance for Melbourne City to close the gap today on Newcastle Jets, but alas, Victory were the better side. For Victory it was the tale of two outstanding assists. That second one was just incredible to see.

Didn't ever think that City looked like enough of a threat in open play. Victory scoring a second goal so soon after the penalty kinda summed it up. Really enjoyed that game. Looking forward to watching Sydney FC and the Jets tomorrow. Their last game was a cracker.

So Adelaide United 2-2 Central Coast and Perth Glory 2-1 Melbourne City.

Two decent games with late drama in both, crowds both nudging over the 8k mark. Not sure what I was expecting but disappointed in the overall standard, lower end of the Scottish Premiership at best.  Still, enjoyable ways to spend an evening, and a few mid-strength beers during the game helps gloss over the dull bits.

I've said a few times that the standard is pretty poor, but the entertainment is anything but poor. A higher standard of football is all well and good, but if it's not entertaining, I'm not really that interested in watching it.

I don't think the standard is that bad, but that coming from someone who's watched QoS for 30 odd years.

I see Nabbout has left Newcastle for Urawa Reds. Thats a massive loss for them.

Jets did really well playing most of the match on Saturday with 10 men to beat Sydney 2-1. Crowd over 18.000 there. With 8 point gap still can't see them catching Sydney.  Wellington Phoenix announced last Thursday that coach Darije Kalezic would be leaving at the end of the season then yesterday he's dumped. Reserve coach Chris Greenacre taking over for the last 6 games.

That's twice now that the Jets have played very well and took something from Sydney. They're a real threat when the finals series comes around. Get the sense that Victory are going to be a tough nut to crack at that stage yet again, which is good because they looked pretty shit early doors.

Couldn't go to last night's game and what happens? We go and not only beat the Jets but our best result of the season 5-2. Phoenix at home next week, making it the 3rd home game in a row then 2 trips to Sydney.

Phoenix might not be lasting too much longer, owner perhaps also looking to sell the licence. Three new teams maybe?
