CAMPSIE BLACK WATCH...LOST TO FOOTBALL TOTALLY

Recommended Posts

ACCORDING to Amateur Footy Forum, Campsie Black Watch will not be operating

at any boys' club level, Under-21 or amateur level from now onwards.

I think I am correct in saying the Watch were formed back in the 1940s, and were

record Under-21 Scottish Cup holders. Gerry Marley - Mr Black Watch -  will be

heartbroken at this news.

I had the honour of being asked to come out to their set-up one of the seasons when they

won the West and Scottish Cups, and took their goalies for midweek training. I saw first-hand

the amount of work Mr Marley and the committee put into running the Blackies. The distances

some of the players travelled - from the likes of Edinburgh- was astonishing.

They played in the amateur leagues last year an did ok i think ? Is this right enough that theve folded altogether ?

Merged with Waterside. I have since been told that players couldnt be

bothered to turn up for training or games. Some of them local, too.

That would not sit well with Mr Marley. Changed days indeed. When I

was at their training sessions, players would travel from far and wide

to get there. Some players who never had transport would be picked

up by car ( via other players), at Buchanan Street Bus Station and

driven out to Lennoxtown.

I'm actually just back from playing a charity game at Broadwood and our team wore Campsie strips and the boy who brought them told me they had folded.

That's why kilsyth st.pats u21s ended up folding as well coach , young players attitude stunk , not turning up to training or games , the guys who'd ran them for years had had enough , an i'm sorry to say i can see it becoming more frequent .

kilsyth st pats...Another great club from a strong period of Under-21football that

featured names like Knightswood Juvs and Kilbowie Union, Campsie's tourney,

the Charles Stewart Memorial Trophy, drew big crowds and plenty of scouts, too.

I do feel for coaches who have ran teams for years and then have to put up with

what you have described. I see it too with my goalkeeping coaching set-up. Boys

released from Pro-Youth level who think they are better than they actually are.

You are right- it will become more frequent!

Rob Roy have an under 21s team playing in west of Scotland premier league. One has just signed a duel contract with us and a handful more are training with us this pre season so they can see what the step up is all about.

There is a campsie fc under 21s

No 21s teams in Lennoxtown or Kilsyth then?! Do Cumbernauld and Kirkintilloch have any? Rob Roy got 1?
Why don't kilsyth rangers have 1 if there's none in the area?

They did have one a few years back pablo and an 18s team , and they had a degree of sucess , the 21s won the scottish , used to share duncansfield with the juniors , a few came through to the junior side , but think same thing happened , boys to interested going out bevvying on a fri night than playing footy on a saturday .

That's good Kirkintilloch have a 21s as do Lennoxtown, hopefully Kilsyth Rangers look at it again in the future.

Think a lot of them like to go to the football as do coaches maybe they could look at 12 o clock kick off rather than 2? Would allow people to get to both most weeks.
