I think Dundee United have signed players who should be decent at championship level but have lost a few as well - Tony Andreu etc.  Overall they may be a little better than last year but that will probably be good enough without a Hibs in the league.

Falkirk have signed Loy but as others have said, have lost a few decent players without obviously replacing them though their youth system continues to throw up gems so who knows

St Mirren have lost Mallon and Loy from the team that finished strongly last season and now Magennis is out for minimum 3 months apparently.  Not sure they have signed enough quality to cope with that.

Outside of United, Morton look to have the best options upfront with Quitongo, Thomson, McHugh and Oliver.   Whether they are strong enough defensively remains to be seen with O'Ware and Kilday having missed most of pre season recovering from operations.  They have looked good in pre season but the opposition has not been testing.

ICT are a complete unknown but have not covered themselves in glory pre season so far.  I think they may be in for a consolidation season.

Dunfermline are another team that are incomplete with signings presumably to come but pre season has not gone well so far.  I don't think there is enough quality in their squad so far to seriously challenge at the top end of the league.

Queens have the leading goal scorer from last season and any team with that cannot be ignored.  Their pre season has gone reasonably well but other than Dobbie, it's not clear they have many players who are any better than average championship quality.  I suspect mid table but time will tell.

Livi absolutely strolled league 1 last season and unlike most teams, have had pre season matches against a decent level of opposition in Motherwell and Kilmarnock.  Whilst they lost both games, they did quite well in both.   They might be a bit of a surprise package this year and challeng for top four.

DUmbarton lost a good few of the team that comfortably stayed up last season including their leading goal scorer which is always the hardest to replace.   There is always a feeling that for a part time club, staying in this league involves punching above their weight and Dumbarton have been doing that for a good few seasons now.  I think to avoid the bottom two places they will need one of the clubs above to underperform against current expectations.

i know very little about Brechin but they will need to greatly exceed expectations to do other than finish bottom.   That may be somewhat disrespectful but it is just based on the resources of the club compared to pretty much all of the rest in the league.

We have lost 4 first team players at this time

Leahy - Gallacher the replacement

Baird/McHugh - Loy the replacement

Sibbald - no replacement

Last season no wide right player - Harris the replacement

Last season Mark Kerr in CM , Joe McKee played four games and is an upgrade on Kerr

So for me outside Sibbald, who will be a loss no doubt, we will overall be stronger.

I still would like to see another CH and RB personally.

This dutch fella called Susan sounds impressive.

Aye there have been plenty of them over the years. Lets wait and see on that one.

I'd say, on paper, Falkirk and United look weaker than last season, which bodes well for the others.  There's still 6 weeks left to sign players of course.

I think Utd look stronger on paper than last season to be honest. Loy, Austin, McKee & Harris have all strengthened their respective positions. The first 2 are self explanatory when compared to Baird and mchugh, McKee will be better than Kerr who is another season older and Harris looks better than Aird. Gallacher is a great replacement for Leahy so only the imminent loss of Sibbald can be seen a weakening the team I think as we won't be able to bring in someone at his level. Quite happy with our squad so far.

ICT going down the unpredictable route could just as easily see them fighting relegation with a parade of ringers as running away with the league, though the latter is more likely.

Holding onto established top flight players like Draper and Warren does suggest they'll be at the right end of the league, but if it does go wrong it'll be easy to see why between players with no experience of this level and a manager whose last job was five years ago, when he was sacked by East Fife for being shite.

A club like ICT have a reputation for stability and competence so you naturally think of them as being less likely to suffer a Dunfermline or St Mirren style freefall on relegation, but it only takes one bad managerial appointment to ruin that reputation (Foran) and two in a row can be catastrophic. Against a backdrop of boardroom upheaval as well, everything could go to shit for them.

I'm not saying any of that's actually going to happen, but the 'creative signing policy' is hardly a guarantee of success either.

I think you'd struggle to find a United fan who thinks we're weaker. Of those who have left I'd only have kept Spittal and that was more to do with his potential than his contribution last season - and I'm in a minority there, most United fans were pleased to see the back of him. Andreu scored a lot of goals but did very little else. Murray also scored a few but, goals aside, is garbage.

McMullan, Keatings, Stanton and Scobbie all look like definite upgrades on the players who have left. If Bell goes then we might be weaker in goals although that depends on how good the young guy from Southampton is.

Kind of sums up this thread.  Everyone knows it means nothing but people can't help thinking it's for real !

WTF are you gibbering about?

As did we: he was mediocre when he was 21, too.

Gav can only dream about hitting the heights of mediocrity (though I accept he did score against Stranraer, but so did Ben Richards Everton).
