When playing 11s for the first year I think it would be a good idea to allow the keeper to take goal kicks from anywhere in the 18 yard box.

It doesn't help the prescriptive rules that are put in place preventing 7s teams playing 11s friendlies in the lead up to the season they transition to 11s, maybe that's just the Central League though.

In the 9-a-side trials what size of pitch are they using?

Most are using 1/3rd of 3G surfaces and other clubs are just using 7 a side pitches due to lack of facilities.

two extra players mades it crowded in the middle.

That would possibly help short term but it may help maintain a dependence on that rule and merely delay the need for another year

All the leagues are like that.  But showing the ridiculous of pathway rules,   just for example,  there's the Glasgow Catholic Schools league where kids from P4 or P5 are playing 11s on a Saturday morning for their primary schools.   Good thing or bad?   They're playing 11s for school on a Saturday and 7s in the Gadyfl at Toryglen on a Sunday,  but many P6s and P7s are less motivated for their boys club 7asides by that time.

I personally detest 9asides for a variety of reasons.  My team played a tourney in Blackpool a few years ago,  it was across half a pitch, with 7s goals.

Only ever played 9 v 9 over half a  season on a transition from 7s ,worked out well for us  from 18 yard box to 18yard   with 9 a side Goals ......Around 2004ish

It was never officially allowed by the league but most teams thought it went down well

This year, in West Lothian, the 2005 age group went to 9v9 in March at a few weeks notice and then went to 11v11 from August the same year. Sound pointless? Absolutely.
The 2006 age group went 9v9 this August, giving them a year at it before going 11v11 next year.

mixed 2005/2006s in this area at 9s but also couple 2006 teams in 11s league.

A few complaints about 9s in this area but not fully involved with it.

No real structure throughout scotland then just a lot of do what you want set ups in different areas ,syfa surely need to make it easy and do a one for all rule???

With 9s being a Trial. I hope they take actions to make it better before rolling it out Nation Wide.

Potential improvements which may work better.

Reconised Referee ( even youngsters wanting to learn earn small amount pre game)

Larger Pitch size to transition past 7s

Rule changes

Decision wise they are talking about making it June/July with the games starting in August which is difficult for the teams to djust with the short notice.

Looks like edinburgh league are considering it. 2006s will move to uncompetitive 11s from March until June's. Gives teams chance to get used to it. The last half year at 7s is always brutal. It's subject to a meeting.

Ridiculous if one area moves to 11s before another
They'll be miles ahead by the time they possibly meet each other in Scottish cup or other tournaments
Our 06s aunt going to 11s till August in Fife but as far as I heard tomorrow is 06s last game at 7s in Edinburgh
