Bill Cosby

Looks like he is about to be christined the American Jimmy Savile if, as expected his sexual assault case ends in a guilty verdict, unlike Savile though justice will bite his arse before he pops his clogs.

Really good documentary on BBC2 earlier on the subject although, the revelation that, in the USA with the exception of murder historic crimes have a time bar of 20 years, meaning only one of his accusers and alleged crimes are being heard.

The US of A, one truly fucked up clueless nation.

The main thing is that Cosby will go to jail where he belongs.

Why wasn't Saville put in jail again?
Was it to do with that massive pedo ring that included the police, celebrities and top level politicians who were covering for each other?

That is the definition of fucked up.

It depends on the state and crime. Family member of the wife almost got away with child abuse as the victim didn't tell anyone until almost ten years after the last time it happened, which is when the statute of limitations ran out. Even after his conviction, she wasn't able to file a civil suit for compensation, as too much time had passed.

Can't think of any reason for that other than to avoid investigating historic cases, which is pretty fucking appalling, especially when you're dealing with traumatic stuff that happened to children.

As I understand it, the logic behind having a Statute of Limitations is that if someone is going to be convicted, it needs to be because of reliable evidence. The argument is that physical or eyewitness evidence deteriorates over time and it's therefore unfair to expect anyone to defend themselves against allegations of a crime allegedly committed decades before.

Of course this sucks for the victims of sexual abuse who were unable/unwilling to come forward at the time due to the disparity of power between them and the perpetrator. It's difficult enough for victims to come forward today, never mind 20-30+ years ago. Priests, older family members, celebrities with connections and other abusers are well aware of this and have all used it to their benefit. On the other hand; it's reasonable to assume that at least some of the recent high profile accusations have been made by people looking to cash in.

Which ones though? Aye, there's the rub.
