Had Morton taken one of their many chances in the first half we'd have probably strolled it. The longer it stayed level the more the players got lazy and ran out of ideas.

Really poor and somehow grabbed 2 points when it might have been nothing.

FFS again. 2 up with 5 minutes to go. Still....a point more than I thought we'd get. Played well....we actually look pretty good. We're knocking the ball about well.

Wharton was immense.

Despite the disappointment, enjoyed it.

We obviously had more possession throughout the game and came up against a well organised Queens side.

We're hitting nice wee triangular passes that looked good without a final ball. We had plenty of chances but couldn't finish. Thought Queens keeper had a great game.

We were far too pedestrian at times and it wasn't until both Quitongo and Tiffs came on we started to get in behind the defence with their pace.

Some of the stuff was good to watch at times frustrating at times too as we need to learn not to over cook it.

Not taking anything away from Queens as they scored a cracking header from I think their first corner?  Second goal we got into a bit of a fanckle but Orr took his goal well.

Not disheartened at the performance as it's very early in the season, but we need a couple more players in and get up to speed in moving the ball about quicker

I thought finishing would have been the least of our worries this season and still think once we've settled on a 1st choice pairing that it will click but tonight was poor at the top end of the pitch and by most accounts Saturday was the same.

I do like Harkins as a player but it's to the detriment of the team as a whole when last seasons player of the year and top scorer is being punted out of position and punted off the set pieces to accommodate imo. As much as I like both I'm not sure how you accommodate both along with Tidser and Murdoch tbh. The way we were set up with them all tonight will not work against better teams and Duffy shouldve learned with Forbes as the deepest lying midfielder after the playoff game in Dundee.

When Tidser went off we lost any control we had of the game tbh. Should be playing at all times when fit.

Tiffonney done really well when he came on as well.

Dear god, I feel for Edinburgh City having to play in that soulless park. Pitch is absolutely awful and made it hard for both teams.

Berwick started much the better but failed to convert a good opportunity with Murrell fluffing his shot. Our goalkeeper then kept the scores level with a great save. The time they had in our box was unbelievable and it was no surprise we ended up 1-0. Great run and finish from Murrell for the equaliser but it didn't take long before we self exploded again at the back, Scullion this time the culprit. Another good save from our keeper and the post kept it at 2-1 but we more than deserved a draw.

Goalkeeper is an excellent signing, he'll go on to a decent level.

We had the worst defence in the league last season and it could be even worse this time around. Fleming not ready for that level, for a centre half he is far too quiet and nervous on the ball. Scullion remains a bombscare. The starfish's legs were closer together than our pair of central defenders.

Mcdonald tremendous going forward but got raped defensively off the young lad Callum who impressed throughout.

Noteman did ok but his days are numbered.

Midfield played some nice stuff but lacked the killer pass, we are definitely better in this area.

Murrell played well through the middle but drifted out of it when Rutherford came on.

Slightly worried about the league campaign due to the defence. Fairbairn not the answer but a must starter until Fleming finds his feet, Wilson awaiting to go for an operation. We will once again concede too many goals.

Queens Park obviously looked well organised in the first half on Sat before they were punished a bit in the second - not really surprised they did well tonight. Results tonight surely help our chances in the group....

Ultimate QP experience. Delight, dejection and pride. In the context of part-time v full-time, we were absolutely terrific for 85 mins. Morton the better side in the first half and Wullie had some good saves and we defended pretty well.

Second half, we were great. Swept everything up and nicked one. Expected a reaction from Morton that didn't come and we scored an excellent second. Even as a pessimist, I saw nothing from Morton that looked like they could get back from that. Once they nicked one back, we were pretty much camped and lost a horrible equaliser from our point of view.

Much to take from the first two games. Toe to toe for an hour against Motherwell and a game that we should, quite frankly, have won against Morton. A bitterly disappointing ending, but the players were magnificent. Special word for Bryan Wharton, who was colossal at the back.

Queens Park should have won but from our perspective that is centered on just how brutal we were in that second half. The first half was similar to the Berwick game where we dominated the game to a degree but didn't actually threaten much. Our inability to defend basic set-pieces was alarming and was showed up before the first goal; the second goal at least only undid our second-string centre-backs before Gaston made an arse of saving it as well. I couldn't give a toss about slithering two points from that display - the lesson has to be learnt that the 4-3-3 system just isn't working for us right now. Harkins is gubbins and shouldn't be in our starting eleven; hopefully tonight was regarded as a tactical lesson rather than some sort of heroic comeback.

Harkins was one of our best players, albeit he was a bit over elaborate at times. Keep him away from the midfield and he'll do really well for us this season.

Some of our play in general was superb. Forbes range of passing at times was immense. The movement across the forward line  was really good too I thought.

Early days, but we need to work on our final ball and our forwards also need to be more clinical in front of goal. Defensively we're fine, but cause for concern in defending set pieces.

We need to give the team more time to gel and get used to each other and how we play. But the usual early season knicker-wetters have started already....

I'm obviously happy we pulled it back and took the bonus point in the shootout as we're still in with a decent chance of progression as a result, but it shouldn't paper over the cracks. That was an appalling performance and this formation needs to go in the bin.

I was impressed by Queen's Park, last five minutes aside they were well organised and solid defensively while in the second half they had us completely sussed out as they forced our midfield into conceding possession time after time and took control of the game, but we really have to focus on how bad we were in the first place to allow them to do that.

Despite being relatively comfortable in the first half, as at Berwick we had no real cutting edge or ability to pass through them. A few chances came from crosses but for the most part the crossing was dreadful and whenever we did manage to get a Morton player on the end of them, it was simple stuff for the goalkeeper. Once again, crosses were having to routinely come from deep from full backs who aren't particularly good at crossing, as the system meant they had no one ahead of them to either show for a pass or drag defenders away, with all of the front three staying in the box and the midfield three unable to find space.

Unlike Berwick, Queens weren't cheaply coughing up possession in midfield and allowing us to counter attack, as for our goal down there. When we did manage to string some passing moves together through the midfield we looked good, but they were few and far between because they just couldn't find the space against a larger midfield: at times it was actually like the formation was 4-1-5 in practice rather than 4-3-3, with Murdoch and Tidser bombing on to join the front three as Forbes was the only midfielder showing to the defence for a pass.

Maybe the concept behind this was that all these attacking players could overload the opposition defence, causing confusion with defenders unable to track every runner and creating space for us, but in reality it meant we had five players standing still on the edge of the box making no attempt to show for a pass while the player in possession was 35 yards further back. This left them with no option but to hoof it, with Queen's Park easily dealing with that.

It was like watching the last 10 minutes of games when we were a goal down under Jim McInally and he resorted to the desperate tactic of sticking both centre backs up front and floating shite high balls at them. It only got worse when Tidser was substituted and Harkins took over the deep lying role from Forbes: then the floated high balls started going directly out for goal-kicks and throw-ins rather than being won in the air by Queen's Park defenders when there was at least a chance we could win the second ball.

The biggest problem with that midfield though was defensive, and again it got far worse when Tidser was removed. QP had been successfully finding more space in midfield all second half, but from Tidser's removal on they were getting yards of space every time they came into our half, and conceding fouls was our only way to stop them. Within two minutes of the substitution we conceded a freekick which led to an excellent cross and needed a superb save from Gaston to keep it at 0-0. From the resultant corner, the ball was cleared off the line. Another two minutes, another player getting clear of the midfield, another freekick which came to nothing despite a man being left unmarked in the six yard box. Another two minutes, another player able to take possession in midfield and get to the edge of the box, another player (one Thomas Orr) able to dance round Harkins and draw a foul. Cross in, yet another free header and a goal as Lamie and Thomson shout at each other saying that was their man. Tremendous organisation, clearly.

The second goal was again well worked from QP but laughable from our perspective. Once again they had easy possession as one of our aimless attacks broke down and it only took one simple ball straight through the middle to put them in on the defence, then our centre backs vanished and Orr was clean through. Gaston didn't cover himself in glory with the attempt at the save either.

At this point we finally, finally abandoned the 4-3-3. Lo and behold, with an actual structure and players out wide we managed to get in behind the QP defence for the first time all game, and scored inside five minutes of the change with Tiffoney getting to the byline then cutting back for McHugh. The corner which led to the equaliser again came from Tiffoney getting to the byline and attempting to cut back. Massive credit is due to Tiffoney for that performance.

Surely to god we'll now revert to 4-4-1-1? If we attempt that nonsense 4-3-3 against Motherwell we could be looking at a repeat of our last trip to Fir Park.

Absolutely delusional.

"Superb play" = two powderpuff performances against part-time opposition

"Defensively we're fine" = concede from a shockingly defended set-piece, then by a simple through ball due to a defensive mix-up and poor goalkeeping.

Perhaps you were a different game.

I did say set pieces were a cause for concern. But overall I thought the defence played reasonably well

At times our play was superb. We knocked the ball about and had the majority of possession throughout the game. What we lacked was a final ball and our forwards being more clinical with their finishing.

A defence that concedes two laughably avoidable goals in a game did not play reasonably well - they failed at their job. The best that can be said for that is that at least our two starting centre-backs weren't involved.

We knocked the ball about to no effect whatsoever until Queens Park sat deep and folded in the closing stages. We had a majority of possession because we were at home playing against a part-time opponent. It's what they do with the ball that makes for "superb play" and our play last night was rancid. Spraying Hollywood passes sprayed out to the other side of the park achieved nothing, which is just as much as it managed in the last match.

Putting any blame on Gaston for the 2nd goal is a bit ridiculous. Lamie made a c**t of it and Barr wasnt covering.

1 on 1 with the goalkeeper and youre going to back the striker to score more often than not.
