Money in the Bank 2017

Recommended Posts

It's time once again for a SmackDown Live exclusive PPV following the 1 hour Pre-Show, 3 hour main card format, live on the WWE Network on June 18th 2017. Midnight start for the Kickoff Show and 1AM for the main card. Money in the Bank this year will feature not 1, but 2 Money in the Bank Ladder Matches. WWE is continuing their obsession with making history. Which means instead of just the usual ladder match, we also have for the first time ever, a women's Money in the Bank match. The winner of each match will carry around the prestigious briefcase, inside will contain a contract for a guaranteed any time, any place Championship Match. This will be the 8th installment of Money in the Bank and it is being held in the Scottrade Center in St Louis, Missouri.

Speaking of St Louis, Missouri, that just happens to be the home town on Randy Orton. Jinder Mahal with the help of The Singh Brothers managed to defeat Randy Orton at Backlash. On the following episode of SmackDown Live, Commissioner Shane McMahon announced that Orton had invoked his rematch clause for the Money in the Bank PPV. Also in that episode, new WWE Champion Jinder Mahal had a typical Punjabi celebration. Not too clued up on it myself but I've had it's pretty accurate.

On the May 30th episode of SmackDown Randy Orton cut a promo about how he would become a 14 time Champion in his home town. Jinder Mahal popped up on the TitanTron to interrupt but it didn't really amount to anything.

On the June 6th episode of SmackDown, Mojo Rawley went to Shane McMahon looking for an opportunity to get into the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Mojo would have to face off against the WWE Champion Jinder Mahal. Mahal's only loss on SmackDown Live was to Mojo on the night of the Superstar Shake-Up. It wasn't to be on this night though as The Singh Brothers distracted him and Jinder Mahal picked up another victory. Mahal cut a promo after the match and said he'd cure the WWE Universe of Randy Orton and at Money in the Bank people would have no choice but to accept him as the modern day Maharajah! Randy Orton responded later in the night saying he'll keep letting Jinder Mahal run his mouth and won't have to say anything himself because he knows that his actions speak louder than words.

On the go home episode of SmackDown, Jinder Mahal with The Singh Brothers came out and berated Orton. As Orton's music played, The Singh Brothers went to the ramp to cut him off, but Orton snuck up from behind Mahal and hit an RKO before retreating into the crowd.

On the May 23rd episode of SmackDown, Commissioner Shane McMahon announced the five participants of the 2017 match: AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Dolph Ziggler, Sami Zayn, and Baron Corbin. Immediately after the announcement, United States Champion Kevin Owens stated that he deserved to be in the match due to him retaining his title against Styles at Backlash. Believing Owens had a good point, Shane decided to place Owens as the sixth competitor in the match. Zayn then defeated Corbin in a rematch from Backlash, and Styles and Nakamura teamed up and defeated Owens and Ziggler.

The following week, Nakamura was a guest on Owens' Highlight Reel. They were interrupted by Corbin, and the two heels attacked Nakamura until Zayn came out, resulting in a tag team match where Nakamura and Zayn defeated Owens and Corbin. Later in the show, Ziggler defeated Styles. Won't post any videos from these matches as we'll end up with too many and it'll break the thread! Nakamura is scheduled to face Owens on the June 6th episode of SmackDown.

On the June 6th episode of SmackDown, AJ Styles defeated Dolph Ziggler with a Styles Clash in a rematch from last week's episode. In the main event Shunsuke Nakamura defeated WWE United States Champion Kevin Owens. Sami Zayn was supposed to be on commentary but Baron Corbin attacked him backstage like he has done previously. Corbin then took the spot on commentary and after the match hit Nakamura with End of Days.

On the final SmackDown before Money in the Bank, Styles, Nakamura, and Zayn teamed up and defeated Owens, Ziggler, and Corbin. After the match, a brawl broke out between all six men that ended with Nakamura standing tall atop the ladder with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

At Money in the Bank, WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi was supposed to face the winner of the fatal 5 way elimination match that was scheduled to take place on the May 31st episode of SmackDown. A mass brawl erupted between all 5 competitors before the match could get started. Commissioner Shane McMahon booked the first ever Women's Money in the Bank Ladder Match, subsequently leaving Naomi without an opponent.

On the June 6th episode of SmackDown, during a segment where Shane McMahon had all women in the ring at once to reveal the new briefcase, The Ravishing Russian Lana made her long awaited debut on the main roster. She came out wanting to be involved in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match and also confronted the WWE SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi and said she could beat her. Shane McMahon asserted to Lana that you have to earn opportunities and she stormed off in a huff. Lana returned later in the show during a Backlash rematch between The Welcoming Committee and Charlotte, Naomi and Becky Lynch. Naomi was on the apron and Lana grabbed her and pulled her down. She got back into the ring and was superkicked by Tamina, losing the match. An angry Naomi stormed into Shane's office in a backstage segment and demanded a match against Lana at Money in the Bank, even offering to put her title on the line. Shane granted her request and the match was made official for the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship.

The following week, after Naomi defeated Tamina, Lana attacked Naomi and posed with the WWE SmackDown Women's Championship..

At Backlash, The Welcoming Committee defeated the team of Charlotte Flair, Becky Lynch, and SmackDown Women's Champion Naomi in a six-woman tag team match. On the following episode of SmackDown, Flair and Lynch defeated Natalya and Carmella. Later backstage, Natalya asked Commissioner Shane McMahon for a SmackDown Women's Championship match, followed by Carmella, Tamina, Flair, and Lynch, who each felt that they should have a title opportunity. Shane then scheduled a fatal-five-way elimination match between them for the following week where the winner would face Naomi for the title at Money in the Bank.

When it came time for the #1 contender match the following week, a mass brawl between all 5 competitors broke out before the match could begin, leading to a no-contest. It was chaos, Charlotte even put Natalya through the announce table! As all 5 women were lying on the ground, Commissioner Shane McMahon came down to the ring to schedule the first-ever Women's Money in the Bank ladder match between the five, with the winner receiving a contract for a SmackDown Women's Championship match.

On the June 6th episode of SmackDown, Shane McMahon had all women in the ring at once to reveal the new briefcase for the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. Right after, The Welcoming Committee took on Charlotte, Naomi & Becky Lynch in a Backlash rematch. The match was won by The Welcoming Committee thanks to a distraction by the debuting Lana.

On the June 13th episode of SmackDown, Charlotte Flair defeated Natalya. Carmella was scouting her opponents backstage watching on the TV.

At Backlash, The Usos (Jey and Jimmy Uso) retained the SmackDown Tag Team Championship against Breezango (Fandango and Tyler Breeze) and again in a rematch on the following episode of SmackDown to put an end to their feud. The Usos did lose both singles matches before hand though.

The following week on the May 30th episode of SmackDown, Usos came out to cut a promo about beating American Alpha and Breezango and that no team in the tag team division can beat them. they were then interrupted by the debuting New Day! New Day moved to SmackDown as a result of the Superstar Shake-Up, they are the longest reigning tag team champions ever and went to Shane McMahon immediately to get a WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship match against the Usos at the Money in the Bank PPV.

On the June 6th episode of SmackDown, The New Day went to Breezango to see if they could get some intel on The Usos. Breezango were excited by a new case but then Fandango was offended when New Day tried to bribe them with new male rompers. Fandango soon changed his mind after seeing how good his partner Breeze looked in one. They decided to take on the case and handed over 3 boxes worth of files on The Usos . The New Day defeated The Colons later in the show. The Usos came out after the match to crack some jokes but reminded them that at Money in the Bank, there will be no more jokes and if The New Day feel anyone behind them it's not paranoia, IT'S THE USOS!

In typical opening segment style, teams came out one by one to say their piece. The New Day spiced it up a bit by coming out with a jazz band playing. Thiss all lead to The New Day and Breezango teaming up to defeat The Usos and The Colóns on the final SmackDown before Money in the Bank.

All the way back on the December 13th episode of SmackDown, The Hype Bros won a battle royal to become the number one contenders for the SmackDown Tag Team Championship. Zack Ryder sustained a knee injury during the match which has kept him out of action for the past 7 months. On the June 13 episode of SmackDown, Ryder appeared backstage and was greeted by Rawley where the two declared that The Hype Bros were back. They expressed on Talking Smack that they should get the title shot that they earned, but said they haven't spoken to Commissioner Shane McMahon about it yet. A few days later it was announced that they'd be facing The Colons on the Kickoff Show.

Dreadful opening post Jamie :P

I'm interested to see how they play this one.  Unprecedented women's MITB match, but when you add that to the men's one, there really isn't that much left on the roster to fill the time.  Hopefully that means they go down the route of having the two ladder matches go longer rather than just throwing on absolute shite matches to fill time.

I'll get round to doing it properly hopefully in the next couple of days. Let's all hope for filler shite such as Breezango vs The Colons, Harper vs English and Dillinger vs Rowan.

They've usually been pretty good at running shows right up to the 3 hour mark during the split (apart from the big shows which go to approximately 8 hours each) so fully expect them to either pad or add nothing matches.  How many of the roster are actually left and available though?  I'd pad every minute they have left with Breezango stuff.  Sure they won't hit the mark with a lot of it, but I'd rather they did something like that than put on a match no-ones going to care about.

Not much hype around this PPV at all!

There's too many of them. PPVs don't feel like big events anymore, and despite a few exceptions haven't done for some time.

I've (stupidly) had a look at odds. If it ends up like the bookies seem to think this will be the worst PPV since I've been back watching, literally every one is the opposite of what I want.

Watching 57 year old Ric Flair take huge back bumps in the WM22 MITB match

I love that match. When Flair hobbles back out [emoji3]
