North Region 2017-18

Cyclizine

Recommended Posts

AGM was last night, same two-tier set up as last season with First Divisions split East/West. Superleague 14 teams playing twice. West division 9 teams and will play three times, East 11 teams playing twice. Fochabers have withdrawn and are not returning. Of note, from 2018-19, they will revert to the old three-tier regionwide setup of Premier, First and Second Divisions.

Spey Valley United refused to go up to the top flight because they don't want to travel regionwide.

Newmachar United quite sensibly therefore wanted to be put back into the East next season, having put up with being chucked into the West this season.

And yet all levels are to be made regionwide the season after that !!!

Bizarre !!!

I fear some clubs might pack it in after the 2017-18 season.

Sounds like the move to districts has proven to be a wrong turn if it's being reverted already. Does it really make much difference btw? With 10 in each it only means 5 away trips into "foreign territory".

Plus it was executed hamfistedly, IIRC, most notably with that ridiculous scenario of Montrose - the most southerly team and actually on the North Sea coast! - being put in the West?

Ten-team divisions might play each other three times (tbc), so 13 or 14 aways, so probably more than 5 would be "to the other side".

Spey Valley United refused to get involved in a 13-aways regionwide division, so directly comparable. If they don't like that, they won't like this !

But with SVU failing to turn up to the AGM, perhaps it's that the rest voted it in in their absence just to spite them ! :P

Not 'hamfistedly', but (too) stringently. The North Sea coast doesn't run north-south - have a look on a map and you'll realize that Montrose is actually further west than one would intuitively think (me included), which by strict application of the rule book saw them put in Division 1 West. It's the rulebook that's 'wrong' by being tied to longitude, not recognizing road travel practicalities - all Roselea's journeys to the west needed to cross over to the wrong side of the dividing line by firstly heading northeastwards up to Aberdeen, and then back over it again.

Strange time for Roselea to be "parting company"

Steve Kerrigan (Kegs) has left Tayport

Not sure if 2+2=4 though.

***CLUB STATEMENT***

Last night Roselea parted with Manager Chris Simpson. The club would like to thank Chris for his efforts over the last two years which saw the club remain in the East Premier League and also gain promotion to the North Superleague after the switch to the North Region last season. The club wish him well for the future. We would also like to thank the various Coaches who have assisted Chris during his spell as Manager.

Roselea will now begin the search for a replacement Manager and applications are invited for the position by contacting Roy Gill on 07908763219 or gill.fin@btinternet.com.
With the exciting prospect of North Region Superleague coming up in August the club will be looking to make an appointment in the coming days.

Away the Lea!

MONTROSE ROSELEA APPOINT NEW MANAGEMENT TEAM

Roselea are delighted to announce the appointment of their new Management Team for the coming season in the North Juniors Superleague.

James Collier needs little introduction to Broomfield Park having played for the Lea from 2010-2016 and takes up the position of Player/Manager. He has bags of experience having started with Montrose Youth, Aberdeen FC Youths, Arbroath FC, Dundee Violet, Carnoustie, Montrose FC and Broughty Athletic. The 30 year old comes back to Roselea and is hungry to take the club forward in the North Superleague

Johnny Duncan will be his Assistant. Johnny is 25 and has played for Forfar Athletic Youth, Lowson Utd and Finavon Amateurs. Last season he was player Manager of Finavon whilst also coaching Forfar Farmington

Kevin Pert is expected to stay on as part of the Coaching staff and other new faces may follow shortly

North Region fixtures up to First Round of the Scottish on the NRJFA website now - specially for Leeds Phil!

Aye, I spotted them this morning. Similarly to last season, it seems a bit daft putiing them out less than 3 hours before the Scottish Cup preliminary rounds' draw with 'provisionals' on those days. They could've waited for the news that Banks o' Dee got no P1 fixture and then P2 BoD v Linlithgow Rose (a cracker).

The NRJFA Secretary is on holiday now, so the choice was to issue the fixtures this morning, with the possibility of changes due to Scottish Cup entanglements, or wait till he returns, late next week. On balance, probably better to get the fixtures out early, as postponements would only affect very few clubs..
