Don't know if you're aware, pal, but my wife is part of a Glasgow city centre soup kitchen that operates every Thursday night from 8pm at cadogan Street, intentionally ironically outside the building where benefits assessments are conducted. They provide hot meals, hot drinks, snacks, clothing and toiletries to circa 250 people every Thursday evening. Swing by if you haven't already, they're a great bunch and they do their best to offer housing and benefit info where possible. They also try and locate white goods and furniture for those who've been housed when they are able.

No, I was not aware of that at all, mate. Thanks for bringing it to my attention, though. Biggest issue for me has been the lack of guidance and finding places like this.

At the end of the line now but it really would have come in useful the past year. Meant to be moving into my own place soon so I may check it out for white goods etc. Thanks again.

Not a problem. A lot of the regulars are homed now, but keep going for the hot food, advice and social aspects. Keep your chin up and swing by cadogan St Thursday nights at 8, everything will come right [emoji6]

Thanks for the kind words, mate. I will definitely go along this week and see how I go, There is zero support through official channels so just wish I had found out about this sooner! Cheers.

The lack of support is startling. I had previously assumed that there would, surely must, be nets in place to catch people who fell through the cracks, but I've learned in the past year since my wife's involvement in H4TH that that isn't necessarily the case, sadly.

They're not a registered charity as they're worried too much red tape will hinder them from providing a crucial front line service, but they're there every single Thursday night feeding a lot, a hell of a lot, of people.

All the best.

The whole system is a charade. Basically if you fall homeless you are in the system for a year and confined to benefits throughout because the system is only set-up to cater for benefit claimants. Exorbitant rent in hostels and temporary accommodation means finding a job would barely cover your rent. A really bad cycle that is impossible to get out of.

Anyway, aye, I digress I could ramble and rant all night! I will definitely mark that out in the calendar for Thursday. Good man.

The folks have been doing a bit with Glasgow Live lately to publicise the issue as well as drawing attention to their services for people who may otherwise not have heard of them. By the sound of things you would have plenty of insight to offer if you fancy doing a bit of press in the hope of helping others? It would be completely understandable, however, if you would rather not. I'm a private person myself. Give me a pm on here if there's anything you need or if you just want to have a chat.

I have already written a couple of journalistic pieces off the back of the blog so I would definitely be interested in that. Whole point of my blog was to try and offer some advice and pointers to anyone else falling into this mess.

If you have any details of who to contact could you pass them on? Or failing that I will just have a look online tomorrow.

Haven't walked down Sauchiehall St early morning 5/6/7 am since the 1980s. Couldn't believe the numbers sleeping rough i saw recently.

Heart breaking.

I've noticed a big increase since I first moved to Glasgow. Depressing.

I work near Cadogan Street and have seen that soup kitchen every week when walking home - looks like they're doing a great job.

I work in the city centre doing delivries and got talking to a homeless guy that begged near Sauchiehall street,I sometimes gave him something to eat and drink but no money.

He was a decent guy that just happened to live on the streets due to circumstances,he later told me I knew his sister,it turned out she worked in our office at work.

It's a great system, some folk are in houses and classed as homeless, I was sharing my night times with the stars and needed a specialist lawyer to even be classed as homeless, the whole system is a big money making scheme for the friends of those in the know.

My last blog dealt with this a wee bit. Council actually profit from the homeless and it is a bloody disgrace! Whole system is corrupt. I too spent about three weeks under the stars until I found out you need to get a lawyer to make Glasgow City Council fulfil their legal obligations.
