S. & E. of Scot. Cup-Winners' Shield

Of interest to those of us for whom the minutiae of the Scottish game provides an endless fascination...

This season an inter-league supercup called the South & East of Scotland Cup-Winners' Shield has been instituted, between the winners of the 2 non-members cups of the EOS League (the Alex Jack Cup) and the SOSL (the new Southern Alternate Cup). According to a thread on the SOSL sub-forum it's intended to provide a second or 'cup route' into the Scottish Cup for senior clubs - in the way the Junior Cup has been for 10yrs. Spoke to some LTHV supporters at Meadowbank on Wednesday, and it sounds like it should get SFA approval.

Inaugural edition is this Saturday at Mid Annandale's ground in Lockerbie between Lothian Thistle Hutchison Vale and Lochar Thistle. So it looks like there's plenty at stake beyond the silverware.

LTHV have won many senior trophies down the years - and competed in the Scottish Cup twice, most famously in 2014-15 going from PR1 to R4 and beating Montrose on the way.

Lochar won only their second-ever title as a senior club to reach Saturday's contest - they have never played in the nation's premier competition.
