Auld Alliance for me, otherwise it sounds like they've been sponsored by an insurance company or something. Either that or Joan of Arc FC.

Le Garde Ecossais makes for a formidable defensive line.

So Glasgow United FC won the vote and looked set to be the new name for the club.

However.....There has been a couple of issues -Firstly backlash from members about having Glasgow in the name and how that will go against the club and create animosity from other supporters etc.  And secondly there is an amateur team called United Glasgow so it appears there could be some problems with that.

So they have decided to do another vote on a final final team name of either:

Glasgow United FC or FC United

Given that FC United wasn't on any of the previous lists of names to vote for and it's weirdly been shoehorned into a final vote is weird and that's before you get into the the fact there is already an FC United (of Manchester) and although they technically wouldn't have same name, and probably ok given seperate FA's anyway - it still a strange move given FCUM often drop the UM  and referred to as just FC United.

The guy in charge of the club basically came out and said "I have the power to veto any fans vote, it's in the terms and conditions  - so we are having a revote"

Given the history of this club do you think having Glasgow or any other Scottish city in it's name is more for continental branding?

Is there a deadline for a lowland league club to change it's name before the season starts or can a club even change it's name mid-season? Just wondering.

Also I take it the will be a few restrictions on the name a club can chose or again as long as any laws aren't broken then anything goes?

Those two options are diabolical, Glasgow United marginally less so.

Rangers and Celtic supporters will put bigotry aside and flock to this club. Disaffected Thistle and Queens fans will join up...

Actually, why didn't they change it to Third Lanark?

They should have their own ground before getting a name or place in the LL imo. Spending on players instead gives an unfair advantage. I assume they aren't all French kids with rich Daddies?
