Do we really want the final to be played on a plastic pitch?

Avoid Rugby Park and get a stadium with a quality grass pitch for the final.

Nonsense we had around 10,000 against rangers 3 times at Somerset in last few years no crushes? Somerset is brilliant when there is a big crowd. Proper old school terraced stadium. Nothing better!

Jesus wept, the young folks today. I was there in 1969 when it was 25500 ;)

Nothing wrong with the surface at Rugby Park apart from size - it destroyed the final last year in a sweltering heat. Lee Clark made it smaller for this season.

Point I was making  was that most teams play on grass week in week out and as you must be aware the ball reacts differently on a plastic pitch. Always think football should be played on grass but that IMO

The majority of fans probably don't but - as folk have pointed out already - the scarcity of grass pitches in the 1st week in June is a barrier.

If it's played in June then it's going to be just about the only option.

It's a high quality artificial surface and we have them on the circuit in the Juniors at top level or thereabouts. Players also train on them fairly regularly I'd have thought. As noted though, grass pitches get closed for reseeding. Killie talk to the SJFA.

Rugby park was hardly usually big.

The heat wouldn't help but there was plenty of guys who couldn't run the length of their self, and that was after 5 minutes.

To fix that you would need to be looking at pitches comfortably under 100m long

Which is what most Junior pitches are, for whatever reason. At the end of a very long season, having been playing since July, these guys are done physically and the reward? to play on the biggest pitch they'll see all season! It's like playing the 'big' Scottish Cup final on a shinty pitch!

Pollok's pitch FYI is 102 x 64 yards. (or 93 x 58m for the metrically minded)

Plenty of Junior players have decent fitness but the ludicrous demands on them to play Monday, Wednesday, Saturday in the lead up to the final leaves them fatigued by the final.

Attendance very much depends on the teams involved - while Pollok can get people in week in, week out, there isn't much potential for a floating support to balloon on the big occasion because the support comes from across a large catchment area that is not centred on Newlandsfield - it would be interesting to see how many fans could (if they chose to) comfortably walk to the ground. The tie-in with Pollok United YFC is something but they're not from the exact same part of the city. So for a decent cup final attendance, count Lok out. It needs to be two small towns / large villages / or surroundings that can fully get behind the team for the day.

Agreed pal. Hence the reason that my team are well supported. Talbot are an institution in Auchinleck. Plus sustained success doesn't dull the interest either.

Your pretty fucked looking for a pitch that small, even famously tight grounds like glebe and central park are beyond that.
Central as the smallest in the spfl is 107 x 66 yards

Was nae looking for bites though, it was a simple question.

So called senior clubs could easily turn there noses up at yer association.

Agree its a showpiece match though.

Good revenue for a senior club, park rental, social club and pies. Unlike the LL the game is televised so sponsor hoardings are going to get highlighted. What's not to like getting a wee visit from the Juniors.

The point I'm making is that most Junior pitches are small - not really sure of the reason for this. Add that to the heavily programme of games that finalists tend to be asked to play, and the high temperatures that seem to coincide with the SJC final, it's a poor mix.

Don't really disagree, however pitch size is probably the hardest one to change.

A may final with at worst giving finalists 2 clear mid weeks pre-final shouldn't be too hard to sort(as much as changing anything in juniors can be)

Not sure of the clear mid-weeks if Bonnyrigg get to the final.  Loads of games left for them this season.
