Perhaps, I guess it's about perspective. Self described left wing parties control 3 quarters of Scottish seats. That the Tories have had a signficant revival up here is withput a doubt, but they are still a minority at every level of Scottish governance, in contrast to England.

It's very complex.

Can't wait for the next election. I imagine that most Conservative voters will be dead by then.

Expecting some cold weather in the next moth or so then lol

All this talk of a disaster for The Conservatives nationally. It wasn't the result we wanted clearly, but we are still comfortably the largest party.

For comparison purposes, the Tories lost 12 seats across the UK. The SNP lost 21 in Scotland.

May called the election on the basis of her majority not being big enough, of requiring a bigger personal mandate to prevent the opposition from derailing Brexit. She created the conditions for success against which she must ultimately be judged harshly, having voluntarily thrown away the first Tory majority since '92.

The SNP are hurt by this result but not greviously so. They are still the biggest party, they still have a majority of seats. And if after all that Corbyn surge and kids coming put to vote, the Tories still rule, abetted by the DUP bigots, well, that's not a bad thing for Indy in the long run.

Good chance it'll be in two months. Would need an abominably warm summer and a lot of fucked air cons in the old folks homes...

Hopefully sturgeon realises the appetite for Indyref2 isn't as high as she thought. Sad to see salmond go as he's an excellent troll.
Mays position is essentially untenable now, in my opinion, as she has zero credibility. She's caused this mess through rash decision making and proving she's an awful, awful leader in the previous few weeks.

However, BJ as an alternative shows what kind of situation we're. It's like choosing between being in a helicopter crash or a plane crash.

The chance for a proper socialist government destroyed by an obsession with independence.
Anyone with a social conscience should be ashamed.

Like a spoiled child this post represents a scream...'look at me', 'look at me'!!.

That last snp victory at wm broke Scottish politics. Broke them beyond belief. Yes some snp supporters believed the hype and acted like dicks - but the actions of the Scottish Tory party (and to less of an extent Scottish labour) have created the current division in Scottish politics.

The snp are going absolutely nowhere. Independence has been dented - but it's going nowhere.

Only if Scotland had voted as one could they have influenced things. That simply doesn't happen (with the exception of 2015).

Wee Ruth has unfortunately done very well here. She's played the independence card in a horrible way - but it worked.

SNP party need to do some soul searching. Disgusting seeing 13 tory seats in Scotland. Will be another election this year i would imagine.

Best news is woke up to is top boy Gethins beating the lib dems by TWO votes in fife north east.Hopefully that really sticks in Willie Rennies craw.

Seems likely we'll all be doing this again in several months time.

If I were the Tories I'd get rid of May and put in Boris. He's seen as a buffoon, but I think he'd be a popular buffoon and could win them a majority.

Labour should stick with Corbyn, back him, promote their better MPs for interviews and never let Diane Abbott back on the telly.

SNP: looks like we're not winning an independence referendum anytime soon. Need to let all this Brexit stuff blow over first. 56 seats was unprecedented and 35 is still excellent. The press love to demonise the leader of the SNP. They did it with Salmond and they've done it will Wee Nic. She is still a good leader, but maybe she's gone a bit marmite like Salmond. Good to see Mairi Black keep her seat.

I don't get it either. I can only surmise Scotland's left wing tendencies are overstated.  The second most baffling outcome is UKIP voters largely going to Labour.

You haven't been paying attention. I've told you all this before, usually to much derision

The vast majority of UKIP votes were Labour voters who were  not being listened to and who were losing out the most to the free movement/ unfettered influx of cheap  unskilled labour and lack of investment.

I've lived all over the UK and I can assure you Scotland is very conservative ( small c )  and worryingly insular by nature and not at all this left wing utopia the SNP would have you believe. It was all smoke and mirrors.

England is now the progressive country and Scotland goes back to being the redneck backwater it always was.

It's a disaster for May. She called this, she had a terrible campaign and she lost her majority as a result. Her position is now untenable and she has to resign, and I suspect she will this afternoon.

However a real disaster for the Conservative Parry would have been Labour being the largest party or *shudder* a Labour majority. Neither of them came close to happening.

The biggest losers in the UK last night were the SNP.

It's not disgusting. It's the choice of the people , your people, The people of Scotland.

And that really won't stick in his craw . He'll take that seat next time.

SNP are a busted flush,
