Meaningless Firsts

Saw Brechin City draw 3-3 with Airdrie on 23/1/2016. The first goal was a volleyed shot at the Cemetery end of Glebe Park. Weirdly the next 5 goals all came from headers at the David Will Stand end. 5 consecutive headed goals in one match into the same goalposts must be fairly uncommon if not unique.

Saints had a 6-2 win vs Hearts in 85/86 with six different scorers...

SPEIRS Gardner (17 mins), GODFREY Peter (26 mins), McGARVEY Frank (43 mins),FITZPATRICK Tony (52 mins), CLARKE Steve (66 mins), ROONEY Jim (72 mins).

I guess it's not that uncommon.

Cost Hearts the league, that did. Just saying.

Must be unique that the league title was won at the same ground 3 years in a row all by the visiting team.

Peterhead 13/14
Albion Rovers 14/15
East Fife 15/16

All won the league 2 title by beating Clyde at Broadwood

A bit further back - we also won the Second Division (now League One) title by beating Clyde at Broadwood in 1997/98.

In the Clyde v Stranraer Challenge Cup match earlier this season.

Clyde made a double substitution in the 2nd Half and then made another double substitution during extra time.

I'm sure that's the first time (and probably only time to date) that 1 team has made 2 double changes in the same game.

And just to add the the detail, 1951, 2002 and 2013.
Worth noting these are the ONLY three titles we've won in 98 years. So not only have we won three titles at the same ground, we've won ALL our titles at the same ground at the opposite end of the country and wasn't even all against the same club!

Why were you playing Brechin there?

Glebe Park was basically an unplayable mud pit for the second half of the 2012/13 season. They couldn't get a home game on for about two months and had an large backlog of fixtures which meant they were already going to have to play twice a week for the remainder of the season. With several games already postponed multiple times a compromise was reached to play a couple of them on Forfar's artificial surface instead to make sure the fixture pile up didn't get even longer.

The Glebe Park debacle probably contributed to us not breaking the record for earliest clinching of a league title as the amount of games 3rd place Brechin had in hand prevented us officially being champions for a couple of weeks beyond the time when we were out of 2nd place Alloa's reach but for the uniqueness of allowing us to for the 3rd time clinch a title at Forfar it was probably worth it! Of course, had they won all their other games in hand we'd have been in the same position anyway.
