Not just Scottish football, but 'Back where they belong'.

Was just thinking that as it was said about Newcastle confirming promotion!

This c/w 'big team'

Jum Spence wrote a few weeks ago that 'football respects results, not reputation' so if you're relegated you fucking deserve it.

The last great football nickname had to be Hagi - "The Maradona of the Carpathians".  But some of the old ones from the 40s and 50s were just fantastic - "The Galloping Major" (Puskás), "Der Papierene" (The Paper Man - Sindelar).  "The [Insert Name of Eastern European Town] Thunderbolt".  Football looks like it was more fun in the old, unselfconsciousness, somewhat camp days.  "Name+y" doesn't really come up to scratch!

The Lion of Vienna.

What about the "Matthews Final", despite the fact Stan Mortensen scored a hat trick.

Not really a fitba phrase as such, but all that "If your granny had baws...." stuff is just irritating.

"Linked" - Sevco have been 'linked' with moves for Kenny McLean and Ryan Jack.

What it means we have no attributable quotes or evidence, but a couple of folk mentioned it on social media.

A "cheque book manager" - needs updated to "BACS transfer manager"

Not Scottish football but never mind (actually was discussed in the pages of WSC fanzine recently).

Pundits saying 'in and around', as in 'in and around the penalty area'. This has spread to the extent that you can actually be in and around a player these days. Shearer used it last night on MOTD to describe somebody, I  forget who, but he had players in and around him.

Aye, really hate that one.

"We didn't turn up".

Seems to be the accepted way of saying "eleven folk paid to play the sport appeared on the pitch and served up 90 minutes of turgid, abysmal, half-hearted football, wasting their supporters' time and money".

I think you're getting mixed up with Dons' fans summing up St Johnstone after we win or draw at Pittodrie.
