Grief Culture

Not to get too philisophical on a thread that should really be about cretinous football fans' desperation for #RESPECT but there is a reason for this pish, imo.

Think of what a callous, misanthropic b*****d you need to be deal with modern life. Getting shit sent to your house which is packaged in some godforsaken, government subsidised slavecamp and delivered by some poor c**t on a quid an hour - can't be fucked going up to Waterstones. Folk voting for political parties that have disabled people topping themself left and right - can't be fucked paying more tax. Seeing news about terrorism and war everyday - can't be fucked even acknowledging it unless I've been to where it happened.

Whether it's football fans with cringey banners or mummys on Facebook, everyone gets a wee chub over connecting to absolutely anything they can on an emotional level because they know they're actually a fucking wrong'un.

I raise you Sevconians that turn up at the slightest Celtic related death with a scarf to hang up like they've just solved the Israeli-Palestine type conflict (or vice versa). The very definition of cringe.

having read the Guardian article this week about what is likely to happen when Brenda pops off, you ain't seen nothing yet..

"The night before there will have been church services in towns across the UK. There are plans to open football stadiums for memorial services if necessary"

I can't see a certain football stadium in Glasgow being used somehow....

,,, Lochburn Park's terracing is a bit tight tbf...

"civil servants will say “London Bridge is down” on secure lines"

What happens if London Bridge falls down?

Isnt just football now. Think every 6n rugby match has had either a minutes silence or applause for something or someone. The grief junkie thing is totally out of hand now. Very much started with the ludicrous mass hysteria around Diana dying. As with the poppy thing there genuinely seems to be some competition to be the most respectful and grief stricken. We used to laugh at Americans for this now we are as bad here.

There was one at Albion Rovers vs Airdrie last week before kick off and folk round about me were asking who it was for whilst clapping- it has just become an empty gesture nowadays.

As has been mentioned I don't see the motivation for folk to tie flags, football scarfs and strips to spots on the road where people have died - why would you do that unless they were a footballer maybe or an absolute diehard supprter. Again just a lazy cliche.

Also if I die in such circumstances and anyone dares tie a Celtic strip or tricolour to my tribute then I will come back and haunt f**k out of them!

There is an utter desperation for some old firm fans to go out of their way to pay tribute to fans/ players who die from the opposing side. It's utterly transparent praise seeking behaviour and cringey.

Another thing that has annoyed me for years but there is never (until now) an appropriate time to mention it.

When ever a football fan dies at a stadium or on the road to, or from, a match then within minutes you'll have someone posting online that "nobody deserves to go to a football match and not come home"

WTF is that all about???

1. It is not true- if Osama Bin Laden, Adolf Hitler, Martin Mcguiness, gary glitter or any other such person went to a football match then I am sure that a legitimate argument could be made by most reasonable people that they possibly "didn't deserve to come home"

2. Why does this saying only apply to football? Why after folk die on holiday to people not state that "nobody deserves to go to Tunisia and not come home" or "nobody deserves to nip out for messages and not come home"???

I've been to Tunisia & have nipped out for messages (not in Tunisia) - could have been me!

The grief culture has definitely increased since Di's death and the advent of Facebook (other social media platforms are available). It's not a case of showing real respect anymore- it's look at me! See how much respect I'm showing! Smiley face etc...
I remember vividly walking back from the park with my granda- I was probably 6 or 7, a hearse drove past us & my granda stopped, removed his bunnet as the funeral cars went past & then popped it back on & walked up the road with me.
Can't remember him getting home & telling my gran, mum, dad & sister what he had just done.

I can remember even before Diana died though any news report of the aftermath of any news report would have the camera zoom in on a bouquet of flowers at the scene with a card saying "why?" On it.

You'd then hear the newsreader say in a sombre tone- "one tribute echoed the sentiments of so many in the community asking simply- WHY?"

I hope I'm on holiday when it happens.  Would no doubt be surrounded by grieving royalist types but a pair of headphones and a couple of drinks by the pool would eliminate their presence.

It seems to be the done, default thing to be seen publicly greeting about something, it doesn't even have to be someone snuffing it. Sky Sports especially seem to specialise in seeking out fans in tears in the last few minutes of a football match because their team is losing. Fair enough if it's a relegation decider or a cup final, but FFS you see it happening in meaningless pish games between the likes of West Brom and Southampton.

The worst example, by an absolute fucking mile, were arseholes on Facebook getting angry at 2016 for claiming the life of some Z-list celeb on a weekly basis, as if it was an actual murderer, and not a unit of fucking time.

Towards the end of a holiday would be ideal, as we'd no doubt get a day's public holiday to "mourn", and maybe even another one for the funeral.
