Scottish Cup 2017/18

When are replays pencilled-in for? Or will it be a case of each game being judged separately?

There's full midweek cards of Premiership fixtures next midweek and the following midweek. That leaves the midweek of 6/7 February, but the 5th round is on the 10th so surely that would be too late.

Presumably if a Premiership team needs a replay, one of their midweek fixtures will be postponed.

As mentioned previously, for some extraordinary reason SPFL have scheduled Premiership cards both midweeks,
while leaving other midweeks during the course of the season free. Meaning the following 8 Premiership games
will be cancelled if the stated ties are postponed, abandoned or drawn:

Wednesday 24th January
Kilmarnock v St Johnstone... depending on Kilmarnock v Ross County OR on Albion Rovers v St Johnstone (if postponed or abandoned only)
Motherwell v Ross County... depending on Kilmarnock v Ross County

Tuesday 30th January
Celtic v Hearts ... depending on Celtic v Brechin OR on Hearts v Hibs

Wednesday 31st January
Hibs v Motherwell ... depending on Hearts v Hibs OR on Motherwell v Hamilton
Kilmarnock v Dundee ... depending on Dundee v Inverness
Partick v Rangers ... depending on Fraserburgh v Rangers OR on QotS v Partick
Ross County v Aberdeen ... depending on Aberdeen v St Mirren
St Johnstone v Hamilton ... depending on Albion Rovers v St Johnstone (if drawn only) OR on Motherwell v Hamilton

To highlight how ludicrous this all is... the following midweek, Wednesday 7th February, is entirely free of competitions :unsure2:.

Oops, sorry - I skipped to the last page so missed your post.

Why don't the SFA set the replay midweeks in stone like they do down south (i.e. second midweek after the original tie) and let the SPFL work round that? If the teams involved then want to bring it forward to the first midweek, and it doesn't impact on any other games, they're free to do so.

I'd agree with you as regards trying again 3/4 days later if there are Premiership matches scheduled.

However, the main question is why SPFL scheduled full cards for both midweeks. It would - for example - surely have made sense to use January 24th and February 7th, thereby leaving January 31st for Scottish Cup postponements or replays. Afterall it's only Killie-County, and Albion Rovers-St Johnstone if postponed/abandoned, "going early".

Infact the whole allocation of midweeks this season was very odd. You see stuff in the press about "7 games in December" (5 on weekends) and "4 midweek games in December-January".

These were the 7 midweeks selected for Premiership cards:
* October 25th
* December 13th
* December 27th
* January 24th
* January 31st
(clashing with Scottish Cup postponements/replays)
* February 28th
* May 9th

Meanwhile these were the 4 midweeks left blank:
* November 29th
* December 20th
* February 7th
* April 18th

Granted that April 18th is difficult as it falls beside Scottish Cup SFs and the split.

However had they used Nov 29th, Boxing Day, New Year's Day and Feb 7th there'd only have been 6 games in Dec (-1)... 0 midweek games in Dec-Jan (-4)... and no clashes next 2 midweeks.

It seems one of the featured games on Sportscene tonight is Celtic v Brechin.

Is it too charitable to think the cameras were originally going to Albion Rovers v St Johnstone and this was the easiest place to divert them to at short notice?

To be fair, it is the holders against a lower league side. If it was at Brechin then it absolutely would and should have been televised.

Other than maybe Queens vs Thistle or the Lanarkshire derby, there's not many more exciting ties that have survived the weather.

With the Edinburgh derby and Fraserburgh-Rangers tomorrow, I'd have expected Celtic v Brechin to be one of today's feature ties alongside Albion Rovers-St Johnstone and the Lanarkshire derby. If somehow Brechin didn't lose - or ran them close - it would be a huge talking point and, equally, they might also be thinking Celtic could thrash them making it a talking point that way.

Well the other featured game (aside from Aberdeen v St Mirren which counts as one of the three despite being shown live is)...

Dunfermline v Morton :huh:
