The new guy is certainly not the best at crosses and he is not as good a shot stopper as Hart but Guardiola's focus is on scoring more than the opposition not stopping the opposition scoring at all costs. It's not Gaston's fault that our full backs and wing backs don't prevent crosses or, Russell in particular, give the ball away cheaply in defensive positions or make daft decisions like Doyle did for Rangers first goal. But this is exactly the point VT made at the end of his post - with inexperienced and/or occasionally erratic defenders, a goalkeeper should be actively managing his defence/commanding his area. Gaston is certainly not the best at this, regardless of his other qualities. For the record: I like Gaston, he's a great guy and as a keeper he's just fine for where we are. Gaston also fumbled the ball into the net at Ibrox and pushed a shot into the roof of the net to clinch the game at Palmerston.
