Boghead ranter
Were Blondie really a punk band though? Or, like the Stranglers, were they classed as punk because the music journos of the day couldn't work out where they actually belonged?

Christophe
DH is a punk culture bit o' gear, whether or not Blondie are punk is boring and irrelevant here, and most importantly, is putting me right off my stroke.

Put it this way, their first single was "Sex Offender" & had to be changed to "X-Offender" in order to get shops to stock it. Even then, it was banned from the radio. They were from the same pub rock (or club rock in the US) origins as the Stranglers & other punk/new wave bands which the NME (read Tony Parsons & Julie Birchall) later tried to rubbish as "not punk" because they weren't paying thousands to their precious Socialist Workers Party (mainly to trash their rivals gigs at that - so much for "punk solidarity"!).
