And looking back, they really don't reflect my self-image as a modern left-ish kind of person. Using the anonymity the internet offers, here's my own voting history (please put yours too, if you're brave enough to be honest). 1997 Devolution referendum: voted No/No. (Hey, I was 18 and didn't know better) 1999 Scottish Parliament election: Labour/Labour 2001 General Election: Labour 2003 Scottish Parliament election: couldn't vote as was living outside of Scotland 2005 General Election: Lib Dem (I never voted Labour again after Iraq). 2007 Scottish Parliament election: SNP/SNP 2010 General Election: SNP 2011 Scottish parliament election: SNP/SNP 2011 Alternative Vote Referendum: No 2014 Independence Referendum: Yes 2015 General Election: SNP 2016 Scottish Parliament election: SNP/Tory (Preferred a minority SNP government) 2016 EU Referendum: Leave Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Bully Wee Villa Posted February 15, 2017 Share Posted February 15, 2017 Been eligible to vote since 1998 and have voted Labour at every General and Local Election and the vote for the Police Commissioner. Have been more experimental in the European Elections. Voted for Labour last time but have voted Socialist Alliance, Socialist Labour and Green in the past. Can't recall how I voted on whether we should have a Mayor. I was in favour previously but against now and can't remember when I changed my mind. Voted Yes to the AV electoral system change (even though I prefer STV) and to Remain in the European Union. The only vote I've ever missed is a by-election for Police Commissioner as I forgot all about it and don't, in any case, think we should vote in such matters. Have always voted for the most leftwing candidate available in Trade Union elections. Voted Corbyn twice as Labour Leader and Watson as Deputy. That's about it, I think. I don't even think there was a particularly single big reason why. I remember being pretty young and having a kind of naïve disappointment at Scotland not really being a country (my Grandad had for years collected all these great history of Scotland magazines (mail order, I think fromthe Sunday mail) into these big binders and I'd read the lot more than once. I've always been left wing, and back then that meant Labour - I guess I was a Unionist by lazy circumstance . I've always prided myself on the logic of my positions, I think the turning point came when I realized how much a mass of bullshit was required to try and bend supporting Labour and giving a shit about Scotland into a cogent argument.
