The Jonestown death tape is on YouTube. It is not easy listening.

The whole documentary is one of the most harrowing things I've ever watched. And I say that having watched Ayr for 35 years

Jim Jones sounds quite similar to  Aravindan Balakrishna, using a kind of cosmic socialism to exert control over his followers.  Obviously Jones was on a much bigger scale.

The accounts and footage of Jonestown is terrifying.  The sheer, arrogance, self-centredness of Jones is what sticks for me, insisting that everyone die for his legacy.  Breathtakingly callous.

Jim Jones is a shit name for a cult leader. It sounds like a made up name you'd give to a girl you had casual sex with and didn't want to see again.

I went out with a girl for a while who had been part of some religious cult in Australia. The leader was being charged with an immensely long list of offences but she had refused to testify against him due to intimidation from other members, which is what led to her leaving and coming back to Scotland. She  was originally from Dunfermline, so I assume she joined as a means of escaping the brutal realities of a life where you have little control over your environment and spend most of your time being drugged up or drunk and taking whatever attention you can beg, steal and borrow from clearly deranged and inadequate excuses for men.

The sex was tremendous, fwiw. I'm not sure what they teach them in those cults but it was worth the danger f**k for sure.

Was that The Family? Saw a documentary about them, some seriously sick stuff went on and the people who ran it made millions. Julian Assange's mum was in it.

Any P&Bers want to join me in worshiping the great god Galawadinho, I have a temple to him in my spare bedroom, although only open-minded females with big tits are allowed to attend services?

Galawadinho!  The Aztec god of savoury snacks!
What sort of temple is that?  A large bowl of tacos and nachos?

My flatmate got involved with a cult because he fancied some girl that he met at a barbecue who was involved in one.

At first he did it for a laugh but after a couple of months he turned weird. A bunch of them would come round to the house and sit in the living room and meditate, sing and other creepy stuff. I didn't want to go home when they were there as they were pretty intrusive and would come into my room to talk shit to me. One of them even tried to hide a weird ornament in my room when I was out.
If my mate and I went out for a pint he'd spend the whole time trying to get me to go to their meetings. texting her and then after an couple of hours want to get home and "check in" on Skype.
I eventually moved out. The worse thing was that I don't think he ever did bang her through all that.

But they weren't all bad. They would bring round some pretty good home made cookies.

Wasn't that one. I think they were known as Agape, or something along those lines. She had been betrothed to some middle aged German guy and admitted to being genuinely upset when it all fell apart. Not sure if it was Stockholm syndrome or something. Whatever the case, I only went out with her for a couple of months. Every time I spent the night at hers she would tell me some other story that was just fucking bizarre, scary or both. I should have bolted at the first mention of religious cults and death threats, but at the time I was generally drunk, off my tits or just plain horny and let it run a wee while as I was enjoying the sex so much.

A cult known as the Orange People had a commune near me in North Wales, big country house next to a more or less private beach. They just seemed to get blasted all the time and throw great parties. And wore orange of course but no bowler hats.

It was later revealed that the sinister leader of the Orange People was a Scot..

Scientology shows how shallow and insecure people can be.  If if they are highly successful actors.

A polis once told me that when they ask someones name and they give one with the same letter starting both the first and surname they automatically assume its made up.

That was just after I told him my name was 'Stevie Stevenson'.
