A judge in a civil action has ruled that David Goodwillie and David Robertson raped a woman in a flat in Armadale.  They have been ordered to pay £100,000 in damages.

The judge said that they were both unreliable witnesses.

I have problems with the civil/legal thing and their abilities to differ on a ruling,

Burden of proof and all that. You can't send someone to jail  because they "probably" did something, but you can empty their pocket. I guess, though, the disparity makes little difference in cases like this where the label is arguably worse than the punishment.

In any case, their footballing careers are surely over.

Plymouth have a goalkeeper who killed two children while drink driving, what justification can they have for releasing a player who has had a civil ruling against him and keeping LUke McCormick?

I can't believe you haven't asked if any P&Bers have had to pay £100k in damages, been an unreliable witness or raped anyone.

Standards slipping as soon as the medals passed out.

We all know who on the forum will be answering 'Yes' to those questions.

Derek Adams must go to bed every night praying for their souls.

Plymouth have now confirmed they won't be selecting Goodwillie "until they read the full report".

Which I think is a euphemism for "cheerio".

He was released after his conviction, which would probably be considered the equivalent.

Whether or not McCormick should have been re-signed following his incarceration is a different matter. There is an argument to suggest that he is entitled to go about his job following his rehabilitation. Some people may argue that he is not entitled to the high profile life he enjoys as a footballer considering the crime in question.

It's a very difficult situation.

Expecting a " The player is both surprised and upset by the Judgement and, on discussing the matter in detail, it is clear to us that the player has not been involved in any such incident, so as he didn't bite the lassie we welcome him back"..............................from Tannadump shortly.

That's a good point.  Difficulty is that Goodwillie hasn't been convicted and so can't 'serve his time' and be rehabilitated.  Is this the end of his career?

No. There are no morals in football. If Plymouth sack him another club will take him on.

He's been fairly nondescript for Plymouth, making the decision easier.
Imagine someone like Ronaldo or Neymar was accused like this.  Zero chance they'd be released.

That's it. The player is not a real asset to the club, so they will probably get rid. If he'd (say) scored 20 goals this season, the decision becomes more difficult. Football clubs are not moral.

Does Robertson still play for Cowdenbeath?

Yeah he's with us.  Hasn't played for a little while.  Nothing been said by the club yet but this verdict was only out a few hours ago.

Just looked there and notice almost all his appearances have been as a sub.

He will probably be nudged out the door.
