SCOTTISH Cup holders Hibernian will send a team to play Lowland League side Gala Fairydean Rovers for the second time this season.

The teams face each other in a friendly on the evening of Tuesday, January 17 at the 3G Arena, Netherdale.

During the pre-season the two teams clashed in a friendly with Gala emerging victorious by two goals to nil.

Eddie May, the Hibs Academy Coaching manager has promised to send a strong side made up predominantly of the club’s development squad players but augmented by one or to first team regulars as the Easter Road side try and get players back to fitness.

Fairydean Rovers boss Steven Noble told us: “We are delighted to get a second opportunity to play Hibs this season. Their development squad is one of the best in the country whilst their first team are clear favourites to win the Championship this season.

"Eddie May has promised to send a strong side with first team players such as Danny Handling getting a chance to aid their recovery and battle for a place in Neil Lennon’s starting team.”

The 22-year old former Berwick Rangers loanee Handling has been sidelined since sustaining damage to cartilage in his knee during a training session shortly after the home leg of the Easter Road sides Europa League tie with Brondby earlier this season.

The game is set to kick off at 7.30pm with reduced prices in operation.

Adults will only be asked to pay £3 for entry with concessions £1 and accompanied children free.

A crowd of over 250 watched a good young Hibs side comprehensively win 5-0 at Netherdale tonight. The Gala side was a bit patch-work with a number of trialists filling in for injured first team regulars. A hat-trick by on form Jamie Gullen and one apiece from Olly Shaw and  Adam Watson, (until last week on loan at Gala...cheers Adam!) ensured there was no chance of a repeat of the 2-0 scoreline for GFR when the sides met earlier in the season. The game was a good work-out for Hibs prior to their SYFA Cup tie against Celtic this coming weekend and was also a chance for Steven Noble to have a look at a couple of players. Not the result we wanted but a good night for the club off the pitch and we hope the Hibs fans who came along enjoyed their trip to the 3G Arena.
