May Election Thread

There was only one campaigners outside my station - a lone Labour boy, surprisingly young. He looked dejected when I said "no thanks" to his leaflet (though I thought his lot loved that phrase). He was gone by the time I left.

Where would you have placed a UKIP candidate, whether or not they had performed a sexual act on you?

Prob after the independents candidates

Edit- after the labour ones as I've no idea who the independents are/were just knew they weren't greens or SNP so they got ranked higher.

I imagine people don't receive literature from some parties because they don't have the manpower or whatever to reach all their constituents in every constituency? That said, the TSUC managed to get to our address as did Labour, Tory and SNP.

I think I could knock on every door in my ward in a month fairly easily, delivering leaflets if they're not in. I can see it might not be worth it in a Holyrood or Westminster election but it could definitely be worth it in a local election.

Thoroughly looking forward to McCabe no longer being Inverclyde council leader after tonight. A couple of the local Labour guys seem alright whenever I've dealt with them but he's always been a complete cod whalloper - no doubt he'll be ranting on about joint SNP/Tory campaigns or something tonight on Twitter.

There was an Arnold Clark removal van parked directly in front of the Municipal Buildings this afternoon, presumably gathering his stuff before they get hounded out tomorrow afternoon. Which is pleasing.

A total absence of Hoxhaists, Greens, socialists, or even independents standing in this ward so after a good guy 1-2 I had to go with the Lib fucking Dems in 3 and the least credible red Tory in 4, in the hope that they'll f**k each other up and allow the Lib Dem to slither in. If it is anything more than a three-councillor ward then I'll be absolutely seething at the lack of electoral choice - in Glasgow there seem to be about eleven candidates standing in each ward.

Aye, was the same in my ward so could be the same one. Was surprised there were no Greens at all here - I doubt they'd have been expecting too much, but with some decent local activism and a positive campaign they'd have no doubt made a decent bash at least getting maybe one seat. Especially when the system is geared towards them potentially getting a good number of second/third preference votes.

Our numbers are tiny in Inverclyde, unfortunately.

I've been really dismayed about the prospect of voting in this election due to the choice of candidate. Coupled with the fact that I've not had a single chap at the door or leaflet through our letterbox so I've no idea about any issues. I tried searching online for any information and only found our Pro Brexit, defend the Union daftie and a news story about the independent candidate who was kicked out the Orange Lodge. And with four seats up for grabs and only seven candidates, I voted for the least worst option.

Labour

Pro-Brexit

1. SNP

2. SNP.

3. Green

4. Socialist

5. Independent

6. Independent

7. Labour

8. Labour

9. Tory

10. UKIP

I had gone in with the intention of putting the Tories as my last preference but I didn't even know there was a UKIP guy standing so he got last place. I had SNP at the door during the week and Labour this evening. The Labour boy looked absolutely scunnered when I told him I'd voted SNP, I think they're going to be in for a terrible time of it in Cumbernauld. Not really relevant to a council election obviously, but found it interesting that my first 6 preferences were all pro-indpendence.

I suspect it's gonny be a long night for them everywhere - it'll make the Rape of Nanking look like a fortnight in Tuscany.

The councils were all they had left, and once they're gone total irrelevance beckons.

Will Labour get wiped out though? If the Tories have got their vote out surely most of them will get 2/3rd preference votes from the hardcore NO SURRENDER Tories?

There's no doubt they'll lose seat and shit-loads of them in the central belt and west coast. Will we see a Labour gain or two in Aberdeenshire etc.

We'll see tomorrow I suppose.

It will be interesting to see if, especially in England, voters are already on an 'election footing' ahead of next month. If so, that surely stands to benefit the Tories with the polls in their current state.

For anybody interested, the New Statesman has a live-blog going through the night: http://www.newstatesman.com/politics/elections/2017/05/new-statesman-2017-local-elections-liveblog

Dundee Coldside/Hilltown (I'm not actually sure what the official name of this ward is).

Anyway, out of 10, I went;

1. SNP

2. SNP

3. Green

4. Independent guy

5. TUSC

That is all.

I didn't get much through the door but then again I'm on the top floor and even the postie can't be arsed half the time. The Greens on the other hand, managed to shove the same leaflet through my letterbox on six separate occasions. Nothing from any of the other candidates except for the generic anti-referendum Tory garbage.
