Queen of the South - Shot at Glory

Can anyone identify the kit that Queens wear in a shot at glory. It doesn't appear anywhere on http://www.historicalkits.co.uk/Scottish_Football_League/Queen_of_the_South/Queen_of_the_South.htm Maybe a training kit?

There is also a chance it is a completely different kit with the Queens badge out on it? resolution not very good but it does look like a Queens badge.

Is it not simply our 1999/2000 kit, with a new advert plastered over 'Alex Wilson' via that big white band with red lettering?

I know that on 'Historical kits' it appears to have the 'Avec' logo and no club badge, but I'm not convinced that these details are portrayed accurately.  It was a truly hideous kit and at the time of filming - August 2000?, it had just mercifully passed out of use.

That's my theory anyway.  Other Queens fans may be able to establish that I'm talking pish though.

We had a special kit made for the occasion sponsored by Mitie who paid for the privilege. It was available to order in advance through the club for fans but no replicas were made for general sale. Dont think more than a couple of people ordered it though. (I did but they forgot mine and I never got it). It was never worn again, just for the film shoot and unless they chose to give them away all the kits were kept by the players involved.

Incidentally MT the Historical Kits site is generally very accurate on the minute detail of shirts. The guy who runs it is admirably anal about it!

Did our 'Kevin Wilson' kit really not feature a club badge then?

That's surely odd for such a relatively recent kit.

I did say "generally"! I'd need to look (I've got one of those shirts in a drawer somewhere) but I'd be astonished if it didn't have a club badge on it. That may be the exception that proves the rule you've found. I know from dealings with the guy before he was obsessive about getting sponsors' logos correct and positioned exactly as they were.

'Alex Wilson' incidentally, not "Kevin". ;)

 Yes, Alex.  Not sure where 'Kevin' came from, given that I go past the shop every single day.

I know from other threads on here that the bloke in charge of that site is indeed ridiculously/admirably meticulous about his stuff.

I think there is an error with that particular kit though.  I don't have one of them - I've got a couple from either side, but not that one.  I think though, that not only did it feature a badge, but it didn't feature 'Avec' logos.  In fact, did the neck even have a white trim?

As has already been established though, I could be wrong.

In this case you're not wrong. I pulled my one out of a drawer (long time since that fit!). There is a club badge (in white embroidery), there's no white neck and not only did it not have an Avec logo, the reason it didn't was it wasn't made by Avec! Pretty sure Ian White of Nith Valley Embroidery got them made by one of his suppliers rather than by a specialist sports manufacturer. The label on the collar just says "Sport Leisurewear" or something like that.

Yes, that ties in with my recollection of it.  It's strange that we went down such a route.

Is it possible that the 'Shot at Glory' kit was sourced from the same manufacturer.  Does your 'Alex Wilson' one look the same as the one sported by the dad of last week's tormentor in the photo at the top of the thread, or are there differences beyond the sponsor?

I'm pretty sure it was sourced from exactly the same manufacturer from memory. I'm not at home so haven't directly compared it to the photo though.

Quality of those kits was (not surprisingly) pretty low though. I think the reason related to poor supply from the previous manufacturer and we weren't at that stage big enough to get any sort of a decent deal from the bigger boys. Not certain though. I was working in the club shop at the time but not involved in any of that sort of discussions.
