To call it a rollercoaster of emotions, for both sets of fans, and probably players, is an understatement

Absolutely. With ten minutes to go, all three results were equally likely. Both sets of fans going home a bit upset that they've not won for two very different reasons.

Anyone else think it looked like Boyle got stuck in the ground when he made the challenge for the second penalty?

Just seemed to stop very abruptly instead of sliding right through and taking the ball with his leg outstretched

Can't really grumble about Ayrs pen but really what was he going to do from there even if Martin wasn't pulling him Farid was alongside.

Two of our players got taken out with actual chances to score and no bookings?

The tackle on McMullan was a shocker, red card possibly.

Surprised the Forrest tackle wasn't in the highlights.

It is a stonewaller for Ayr, silly penalty to give away, however it isn't a yellow by any stretch of the imagination. The bloke who said the ref booked him forgetting he was already carded has it spot on imo.

The biggest problem is we have no one to come in at right back on Saturday, Fordyce out to right back and Wedderburn at centre back would be my choice

It certainly looked that way. He was unlucky as he probably would have cleared the ball if his leg didn't get stuck. Still a penalty though. Perhaps McCall can have a word with the defence about diving into tackles in the box - both penalties were avoidable.

Is Geggan not back?

As for the second yellow at the penalty, pretty sure the ref didn't realise he had already booked him and thought he was just giving him his first yellow. It was harsh.

From Law XII Holding an opponent

Disciplinary sanctions • A caution for unsporting behaviour must be issued when a player holds an opponent to prevent him gaining possession of the ball or taking up an advantageous position • A player must be sent off if he denies an obvious goalscoring opportunity by holding an opponent

In which case Forrest should have been booked ten minutes later for holding onto Duthie? (might have been another player) to stop him going up the right wing?
Second bookable offence and would've been sent off.

Anytime a foul is given for a cb and a striker jostling for a ball surely comes under holding the opponent also?

I for one welcome the 5 a side games that will soon become the norm.

I thought it was pretty common knowledge that a shirt pull is a yellow card. Obviously not the case amongst Dunfermline's finest.

That's the thing, it's clearly stated in the laws of the game that it's a yellow card, it is by definition a cynical foul where there is obviously no attempt to play the ball/challenge fairly whatsoever. Regardless of where it happens on the pitch it should therefore be a booking every single time. Despite this, referees fail to produce a card for 99% of them, so Dunfermline fans are entitled to be annoyed that it's happened on this occasion, when other shirt pulls in the same game didn't result in yellow cards.

Going off at a tangent, this is why I don't have any sympathy for referees when a debate around rules starts up and one of their representatives chimes in with 'Don't blame us, we just enforce the rules, we don't make them'. They'll use that argument to defend, for example, giving a player a yellow card for removing their top when celebrating a goal. Fine, players know they can't do that under the rules and are stupid for doing so, but referees argue their hands are tied and they'd be punished if they didn't enforce the rules.

However, referees have always picked and chosen which rules to enforce - how often do you see them punish blatantly foul throws for example? It clearly states in the rules that kicking the ball away is a bookable offence, it happens multiple times in every single game and they rarely produce a card - it's a rule they're choosing to ignore, why not do the same with others they don't like? They wilfully ignored both the obstruction rule and six-second rule for so long that the authorities just changed the laws to fit with what referees were doing already, rather than asking referees to enforce the rules as they were written. When they're choosing to ignore so many laws of the game, they've got no right to hide behind the rulebook when someone takes issue with a decision.
