Phones Putin to congratulate him on his 'hard won' election victory.

I’m sure he will be criticised by the Tories for this.  You know, just to make sure they’re consistent.

Accuse of chemical weapon attack.
Congratulate on election win.
Maybe May's support among allies isn't so strong after all.

Also stated that the chemical attack was not discussed, ooft ,shoulder to shoulder

Cambridge Analytica using British and Israeli companies that specialise in intelligence gathering to gather data on users:

https://www.timesofisrael.com/trump-campaign-mined-facebook-user-data-using-israeli-intelligence-gathering/

High likelyhood that these (unnamed) companies have ex-military intelligence officers amongst their staff. In fact a man who was involved setting up the Latvian training programme mentioned below used to be a commanding officer in the British Army's Psychological Operations unit: https://www.linkedin.com/in/steve-tatham-ph-d-340aa434/

It's also known that many Israeli tech companies are staffed with ex-IDF intelligence officers - particularly from Unit 8200.

CA parent company Strategic Communication Laboratories working with NATO, UK Ministry of Defence and US DoD to change audiences "attitudes and behaviour" and "help them withstand foreign propaganda effects".

There was another article that I read today on this that I can't seem to find at the moment. It was either about Latvia or Estonia and SCL were involved in encouraging discord between ethnic Russians and natives in one of the aforementioned countries.

Here is the article I was talking about: https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-20/ftc-said-to-be-probing-facebook-for-use-of-personal-data

Five paragraph mentions exploiting or exacerbating ethnic tensions in Latvia for (attempted) political gain.

I've no idea what you're on about. No mention of Latvia whatsoever. The last thing the West want is stirring up discord between ethnic Russians and Baltic natives, not sure if even Russia would want to kick off that shit storm  at the moment.

Maybe I'm missing something but I don't get all the hype about this Cambridge Analytica stuff. Haven't we already been here? I remember hearing about it after the US election. If the main story is the relationship with Facebook then that doesn't sound like news to me - I don't think anyone is surprised that their data is abused and sold to whoever wants to pay for it.

Sorry wrong article linked (Bloomberg's multiple articles in one page format causing issues): https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-03-23/trump-data-gurus-leave-long-trail-of-subterfuge-dubious-dealing

It isn't "the West" that ran this campaign but rather a local centre-right Latvian candidate. SCL seem to have lots of contracts and connections with NATO defence departments but were still a commercial company all the way through which proffered their services elsewhere.

CA's gathering of data in this way is extremely unorthodox and in fact Facebook has positioned itself as a "black box" where you can use Facebook's audience only in Facebook and only in the form presented to you by Facebook's platform - you do not get access to the raw data and you are not allowed to use tracking codes and apps to scrape all that data yourself. Also the apps they are using for this scrape such huge levels of data at once that make them vastly different from most other tracking codes used for advertising. It's more similar to a limited form of malware.

What CA have done here is unique, immoral and also genius at the same time.

One of the big issues is the original survey they paid for covered only somewhere in the region of 270k users, which they then used to scrape data on up to 50 million of their pals. Doesn't help the cause that the chief exec was also video taped offering to honey trap political rivals with cocaine and hookers.

Trump was apparently briefed not to congratulate Putin, by his National Security advisor, did so regardless.

It would have been an awkward conversation otherwise tbf. " Hi Vlad, heard you're still President. Anyway, what's the weather like in Moscow, we're snowed in over here."

Not for Trump.  He can talk for hours and say nothing meaningful whilst avoiding saying something specific.
