In the centre of Edinburgh there are lots of shops selling tartan tat for the tourists, dozens and dozens of shops selling this garbage.

Every other week we have poppy tat being sold outside Tynecastle. Hats, scarves and badges all poppied up. T-shirts and football tops.

You'd think it would be about time to stop going on about it. It's almost 100 years since...

Not Hearts though, they build memorial garden inside Tynecastle and stick up a statue of a soldier.

FIFA have now retrospectively charged Ireland for their Easter Rising tribute on the shirts. This is all a bit mental.

How embarrassing. What a pair of losers both FA's are. Should've just had a minutes silence and laid a wreath before the game ffs.

That's the thing, it's not as if they weren't allowed to do anything and are using the poppy as their "thing".  There's almost certainly going to be a minute's silence, as well there should be, because that's the dignified way of remembering.  I mentioned earlier that after FIFA said no - which they're perfectly right to - that they should have reluctantly accepted the decision and given a donation to the British Legion.  Then they can keep playing the "FIFA are awful" card, and come out with dignity.  But the current climate of being terrified of being spotted without a prominent poppy meant that wasn't an option.

Let's face it, they're going to wear them, and then FIFA are going to act.  Whether that's with fines or point deductions remains to be seen.

Oh dear how sad, never mind.

Don't be surprised if the English FA were the ones who brought this to their attention.

Quite right too.

I read that when this first came up a few years ago senior people at the FA privately thought FIFA had a point, and were prepared to drop the issue, but then the tabloids and David Cameron waded in and the FA felt they couldn't then back down.

We've got one more poppy than them #naerespect #oorbravelads

This is all getting pretty ridiculous, but think I saw the nadir on Argyle Street during the week.  There was a gig-style truck promising "OFFICIAL MERCHANDISE" for poppies.  There were all kinds of T-shirts with hastily scrawled slogans of remembrance.

I tell you, it wasn't freedom or anything else those people in the Somme fought for, it was the OFFICIAL MERCHANDISE truck.

What an irony there is to the English and Scottish FA's stance being that the poppy isn't political so we'll wear one anyway.

This annual event has been cheapened every year by this utter nonsense.

Also the ignorant shite spouted by some of our media suggesting britains Remembrance symbol is more important than other countries is abhorrent.

Looks like Wales are showing how to react with dignity without risking any punishment from FIFA.

Quote

"The FAW (Football Association of Wales) naturally wishes to respect and honour those who fought and lost their lives fighting for their country," said Jonathan Ford, the chief executive of the FAW.

"We felt unable to take the risk of a financial penalty or point deduction, however, as we always have done at this time of year, we will be paying our respects in other ways."

A simple "we don't agree with the decision" and doing an alternative instead.  Was that really so hard?

Of course, what they do will still likely be overblown.
