stillresigned
great irony is that the Great British media don't see the irony when they claim it's not political and it pops up on PMQs! Why don't they just hold a respectful one minutes silence and leave it at that? What if some players are not comfortable with poppy wearing are they to be forced? To me it stinks of commercialisation and faux-moral panic which seems such a part of sport in this media driven age and has actually little to do with commemoration or remembrance. resk
The SFA are like the wee lad who follows around the big, tough utter arsehole at school egging him on to beat on the weaker kids. Fkin aligned themselves with some right c***s here.
Newbornbairn
Ok, who forgot to bung FIFA their brown envelope over this one then?
haggisbeastie
All wars are rooted in politics, so FIFA right to restrict this to avoid setting a precedent which conflicts with impartiality.Unfortunately, politicians like to justify illegal wars by associating them with others, by conflating them all under the same banner for the purposes of getting more young kids to follow them into next Middle East "adventure"... HibeeJibee
Minutes silence would have been enough, IMO, but given FIFA's handling of things I'm glad the FA have decided to defy them and SFA have followed. Incidentally, Scotland wore poppies v Cyprus on Remembrance Day in 2011. How was Cyprus-Scotland OK but suddenly England-Scotland isn't?Commonwealth + UK surely less questionable than UK + UK? THE KING
Hopefully FIFA ban both for this crap..what if England was playing Germany next week would we expect Germany to be reminded of the war ?! Or NI was playing the ROI on the anniversary of 1916 would we be in favour of a minutes silence or symbols on shirts? Or a World Cup final on a countries Remeberence day..should that country be allowed to wear symbols or hold minutes silence? Utter bollocks both sides can do anything they wish to respect the cause before and after the game.
Gunz
Not overly bothered. Would like it if we wore them but I won't complain like some people.
IainMorton
So both teams are going to go against FIFA rules and have a poppy next week? Here is how it will play out - we tell the English that we will follow their lead and wear a poppy, they show up with a poppy on their jersey/armbands, we don't, they get deducted points and we finish top of the group

RadgerTheBadger
what if England was playing Germany next week would we expect Germany to be reminded of the war ?! Well considering it was them who started it then aye Even then, it's to commemorate all injured or deceased servicemen/women and civilians in all conflicts

It should be a simple case of the players choice: Wear one if you want, or don't if you don't want to. And what of those who don't? I think this represents a greater ideal of 'freedom' (for those morons who believe that to be what is being commemorated here) than simply wearing one cos' your told to. f**k FIFA, they couldn't run a fucking menage. ayrmad
There's hardly a more visible political symbol in the UK now, every establishment puppet wears one, TV presenters and guests, newsreaders and all the politicians must be required to wear them because I know of no other demographic where 100% wear a poppy. 1320Lichtie
Poppy polis all over Twitter. The whole things became a farce. It's been taken over by the lunatics and for whatever reason it's now acceptable to start calling folk who haven't got one on disrespectful, the media actually joining in with enforcing this view too. Don't recall a huge fuss about that.

The Roi were very welcome to mark 1916 IMO but for our administrators to use it as an argument is to utterly miss the point and I wish it had never been brought up. What a horrible club Rangers are for having a minutes silence, respecting the war dead, collecting money for the troops and inviting hundreds of them in for free. What will these monsters do next? I don't know, use remembrance to bolster ticket sales, hijack it to get one over on Celtic. Something utterly vulgar like that.
